Chevy's Diner in McDonough was the readers' pick for best burger in and around Atlanta. It might be a surprise winner for those unfamiliar with it, but Chevy's fans are passionate about this Henry County spot. And doesn't that burger look tasty? Photo courtesy Chevy's Diner.
YOUR PICKS
1. Chevy’s Diner
You say, “Chevy’s Diner in McDonough makes the best burger! Old Blue Eyes is a half pound of awesome-ness with two pieces of thick cut bacon and bleu cheese crumbles.. There’s something about the seasonings they use in the freshly made patties, y’all. It’s just the best burger I’ve ever had!” and “Fantastic hunks of beef on enormous buns with fresh everything — This is the kind of hamburger that you crave and nothing else will do until you can get back over to Chevy’s.”

OUR PICKS
1. Bocado
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “Chef Todd Ginsberg’s burger at Bocado, a double stack of house-ground farm-raised beef, American cheese and house-made pickles served on an H&F bun, stands out amongst the many contenders for Atlanta’s best burger. Ginsberg’s simple preparation and attention to quality ingredients makes this the strongest offering of its kind in town.”

Been here for 24 years and tried almost every burger in this city, and if you want the “Best True Burger” then US Cafe in Smyrna and Buckhead (off Piedmont) is the place to go for the best meat, bread, etc. So much so I just talked myself into one.

I would have to go with Wonderful World in Emory Village or The Vortex (either location). Wonderful World has really good a la carte burgers, made fresh. And even though this is about burgers, their teri-mayo dog is top notch as well. I’m not going to dive into The Vortex. It’s an Atlanta landmark, so if you haven’t been you need to, and soon!

The burger at Holeman and Finch. The ‘only 24 burgers a night @ 10pm’ is a little gimmicky, but they have them at Sunday Brunch too. Sooooo good, and worth the hype.

I love George’s in VA-HI and Smashburger. Farm Burger is also very good. The most unique hamburger I’ve ever had came from Cypress St. Pint & Plate at Battle of the Burgers last year- the ice cream burger. I have to admit it sounds pretty nasty but it was delicious!

Has Vortex improved on the burgers themselves? Yes, the toppings were always great, but the burgers themselves always had the rubbery compressed texture of those cheap pre-made supermarket patties, at least as of the last time I went two years ago.

I’d have said The Vortex or Farm Burger before I tried Kaleidoscope’s beauty. Two patties, pimento cheese, chow chow, slaw and house-made pickles, and, flatly, the best in the city.

I love the old school, right at the top vote for Manuel’s Tavern. They had the best before we were paying for designer burgers. Still a great burger!! George’s is spot on, too! The Vortex truly elevated the burger (shoot, they put pimento cheese on a burger before it was hip). I vote for all of them! Oh, and US Cafe……..dem make a great burger!!!
