Steamhouse Lounge's beloved lobster bisque took top honors from readers for best soup in and around Atlanta.

OUR PICKS
1. Tofu Village
The AJC dining team’s specialist in Southern and Neighborhood Fare Jenny Turknett says, “Prepare to dig in and sit for awhile with the kal bi tang (short rib soup) at this unassuming spot in a Marietta strip mall. Don’t rush through this bowl of steaming hot broth or you’ll miss that it slowly becomes richer as you draw the tender meat from its bone. So rich, in fact, that you won’t look to the small crock of salt served on the side for flavor.”

I’m not sure I can get over myself and go eat at Souper Jenny’s. Never been, but several folks here nominated it. I looked up their website and let me just say HAHAHAHAHA. Apparently it works like this: you pay $13 or $14 for the lunch “deal”, you cannot use your cell phone (great idea, can’t possibly be enforced), you cannot pay with plastic, you have to bus your own table, and apparently singing with the staff can get you a cookie. Must be a Buckhead “oh look at me, I’m at Souper Jenny’s” type of place. Too much money and work for lunch, IMHO.

Just like the eleven previous posters, I can’t think of a better choice for soup than Souper Jenny. Eat in or carry-out, the line moves fast. Always a variety, always vegan choices, always *something* that’s not soup. Oh, and they’re all well-considered, made from scratch, yummy recipes.
BTW, to everyone who names a chain restaurant, you’ve just boosted Corporate soup. If it has to be the same everywhere everyday, it’s never gonna be the best. Please, support a local chef in a local kitchen, you might even save some cash!
