The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “Owner Robert Owens will convert devotees of BBQ spare ribs with the exceptionally thick and juicy baby back ribs he serves at Grand Champion BBQ in Roswell. Unlike most baby back ribs, Grand Champion’s will surprise you with the amount of meat on each bone, and Owens does a remarkable job of infusing the meat with a strong smoke flavor.”

Pippin’s in McDonough. Unfortunately, ribs are available only on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Funny how many people just say “Fat Matt’s” without a reason or backing it up, but those who dislike Fat Matts at least extrapolate.

Fatt Matt’s fans. Why is it so good?

Moes on 14th or Fatt Matts.

Fat Matt’s isn’t the same anymore. I can’t put my finger on it. Still good, but there are now other places in their area code.

I am not a big fan of baby back ribs, I prefer spare ribs, and for that reason Dreamland is the best around. any other suggestions for good spare ribs, I’m open to suggestions, but most of the ribs mentioned here that I’ve been to are baby back…

JJ’s Rib Shack on Campbellton Road. Plan to wait as the ribs come right off of the grill, but our family LOVES it. The best I’ve had in Atlanta so far.

I prefer Fox Bros. for the brisket and Daddy D’z for the sides. But for ribs? Ms. Betty’s House of Ribs all the way!

Grand Champion Barbeque in on Shallowford Road- best meatiest ribs I’ve ever had. The dry-rub alone is so delicious you need no sauce.

I vote for Grand Canyon Barbeque in Marietta. There ribs are delicious, never sauced, but rubbed with a fantastic blend. These ribs are cooked fresh everyday. Also, this restaurant is the only one in Atlanta that uses fresh pork, never frozen and it really pays off.

GC BBQ in Roswell at Shallowford Road and Johnson Ferry. Best ribs ever!! Always fresh, never frozen. Just the right amount of smokiness and very meaty!!

Grand Champion BBQ is the new kid on this block…and deserves a strong recommendation. If you haven’t driven over to Shallowford and Johnson Ferry and found these quality ribs, I highly advise you to try them before you vote!

Hey for all of you choosing the McRib! Thanks so much! See, we won the contract to supply McDonald’s with their McRib sandwiches. When they wanted bland, boiled pork smothered in pancake syrup, they knew who to turn to!

I have yet to have ribs in Atlanta as good as the spare ribs at (long gone) Harry’s Open Pit BBQ in ,wait for it, Hollywood California. They were on Sunset at Crescent Heights until the late 70’s, then re-opened in the 90’s on Sunset near the Guitar Center, for a year or so before California EPA closed down the smoke pit.
Sounds like heresy, but my lady is from Tennessee, and she swore by them.

Here is my vote for Williamson Bros in Marietta and 2nd place to Bub-Ba-Q in Woodstock for spare ribs, no baby back, although thats good eats as well. Bub-Ba-Q has the best Beef Brisket I have ever had!

Happy to see that Sonnys is not considered BBQ as this was my first taste of southern BBQ & was very dissapointed. I see lots of votes for Wallace in Austell, gotta give that place a try & plan to eat lunch at Mustard Seed in the hood tomorrow.
