OUR PICKS
1. Swallow at the Hollow
The AJC dining team’s specialist in Southern and Neighborhood Fare Jenny Turknett says, “The homemade buttermilk biscuits at Swallow at the Hollow epitomize the Southern biscuit: fluffy, tender and buttery. The biscuits are halved and pan-seared, resulting in a toasty crisp inner layer shining with butter. Swallow at the Hollow’s biscuits are eye-rolling good, particularly when smeared with the accompanying honey.”

The Little Barn in downtown Lawrenceville. Bigger than a cat’s head and lots of good stuff to put inside it.

I wouldn’t eat them for breakfast, but the cheese biscuits at the Red Lobster are worth the trip all by themselves (actually, I can’t think of any other reason to go there).

Corey’s up in Calhoun are pretty good – they have a nice rise.

Also, Kelley’s in Chattanooga are pretty good if you’re looking at out of state options.

I think Corey’s was a spinoff from Kelley’s, so I’ll probably give the nod to the original ;)

I do not want to admit it but my grandmother made the best biscuits ever, but it was the way she made them that I do not want to admit. Two ingredients: whole buttermilk and lard. Need I say more? But I am quite sure they will be served at the Marriage Feast of the Lamb in heaven. But then it won’t matter what we eat.

Thumbs Up in Decatur (and possibly the other locations), too bad they don’t have sausage gravy which should be a mandatory side vote for this survey. The sausage gravy down the street a Decatur Diner is great; but, the biscuits, not so much. Get together on this guys. Fast food: Popeye’s.

Feel kinda sad for anybody that is voting for a fast food joint as the best biscuit in Metro Atlanta, pass the Bojangles and Popeye’s and head for Little Barn in Lawrenceville or Amy Lafay’s in Dacula or a dozen other places in the area that have better biscuits than a fast food joint. Oh, but Chick-fil-a chicken biscuits are pretty good in an emergency.
