Best macaroni and cheese

You have tipped your hat to Grand Champion BBQ, with many saying they’ve brought mac and cheese to a “whole new level.” Grand Champion’s macaroni and cheese is considered less oily than others and gets shout-outs for “the power of gouda.”

Though versions of this near-legendary Mac and Cheese recipe can be found at other spin offs from the Sam & Dave’s family, credit must be given to Dave Roberts of Community Q for creating this gooey masterpiece. This blend of cheddar, Monterey Jack, and Parmesan cheeses with over sized rigatoni noodles made this Atlanta’s unrivaled favorite mac and cheese, and rightly so.

The best I have ever tasted came from a restaurant in Cleveland Ohio. The Boneyard has over five on the menu, the one I was recommended was Mac with Buffalo Chicken. The two compliment each other so well, and the heat is just enough to make you know it is there. It is awesome!

I am glad to see all these places so I can go and try…do not laugh when I tell you this but Panera Bread at Northlake had some delicious Mac n Cheese. Problem is I only had it once, the times I have been back there to get it they had run out. I will def try a few of the others mentioned here.

What makes the mac & cheese at DAVE POE’S House of Q some much better than other places?

Have to tip my hat to Grand Champion BBQ. Others in the Marietta area are great, but these guys have the power of gouda and no oily leftovers in their mac. Excellent!!!

Three in a row for Grand Champion BBQ – and all within three minutes? Why am I skeptical that these were three independent consumer posts?

Glenn, thats how social media works, one of the guys from GC posted it on their facebook wall.

They are right as well, Mac and Cheese at Grand Champion BBQ is mind blowing. Its better than Dave Poes and his is way better than everyone elses.

The mac & cheese at Local Three is hard to beat. I’ve had two different varieties there at brunch (two different occasions) and both were amazing.

Ok, I now understand the three consecutive posts – so GC is lobbying for posts, but I guess that’s part of the game, too. Anyway, I visited Grand Champion BBQ about two months ago after it was first mentioned in the AJC. I agree the mac n cheese is very good, but I don’t think it’s better than Capital Grille’s Lobster Mac n Cheese.

I do also love the Lobster Mac and Cheese but I mean whats not good if you put lobster in it. The only thing better than lobster is more lobster.

@Stupid – Actually, from my understanding, the owners of GC paid the owner of BBQ1 for use of certain recipes. GC has expounded upon and tweaked these recipes. That in mind, I don’t think it’s fair to say they “stole” anything from Sam or Dave and as someone who has eaten at both restaurants multiple times, I like GC’s Q better.

Can’t believe nobody has mentioned Our Way Café in Avondale. Their 4-cheese mac & cheese is stellar! I also like Community Q’s version, but bring me some extra napkins to blot the grease before I start eating it.

@Stupid- know your facts (or at least ask). GC BBQ never stole it from BBQ 1. The original recipe came from David Roberts. Dave Poe was a partner with Sam at BBQ 1 (hence the name was Sam and Daves BBQ 1). So GC BBQ hasn’t “stole” BBQ 1’s recipe. In fact they improved the recipe by adding smoked Gouda. I learned this when I asked them if they ever ate at BBQ 1. Needless to say GC BBQ gets my vote. I like a place where the owners prepare your order in front of you.
