Atlanta Cupcake Factory is the one for me! I typically find most cupcakes to be overly dry, especially chocolate ones. But I have never had a dry cupcake from them. Case in point: Red Velvet is usually best experienced as a slice of cake, not a cupcake. But I’ll take a Red Velvet Cupcake from Atlanta Cupcake Factory any day! Their menu is definitely one of the most creative and expansive in the Atlanta cupcake world, too. From El Diablo to Chocolate Peanut Butter Bacon, you cannot miss.
Closer to home (I live in East Cobb), Gigi’s makes some very tasty and quite pretty cupcakes. I favor the fall/winter menu over the current spring/summer one, but their cupcakes are as delightful to eat as they are pleasing to the eye.

Jilly’s Cupcakery in Alpharetta for their salted carmel or maple bacon. Wonderful daily selections keeps things fresh and new for their customers. I’d also have to give a shout-out to Camicakes for their amazing red velvet. I miss Sweet Pockets, though. Nothing like their icing, hands-down!

My daughter has so many allergies and we have had gluten vegan cupcakes before, but they were always mushy. Jilly’s brought a sprarkle to my daughter’s eyes. These cupcakes are sooooo awsome!!!!! I think if we ever move out of the area we will just have to have them ship overnight!!!!

I don’t like Gigi’s. There cupcakes are too “heavy on top”. I think a cupcake should balance moist cake with creamy icing. Cami cakes does this perfectly. Also, if you can get them (they sell out quickly) Henri’s Bakery has sublime chocolate cupcakes.

Can always tell when people have never had a decent cupcake because they always yell CamiCakes. Those are the most disgusting gutbombs ever made. Dry, tasteless something-claiming-to-be-cake topped by the most noxiously-sweet congealed mass of cloying sugar mass. Is it any wonder everyone I see walking out of that place is wider than they are tall? I’ve had better cupcakes from a Betty Crocker cake mix and can of frosting, and I wouldn’t eat that unless forced to do so.
The only decent cupcakes I’ve had from a bakery around here are from Henri’s in Buckhead. They still make real desserts without catering to the pigs-in-the-trough.

Edward – well said. I have been to CamiCakes a few times due it being very convenient to me only to be totally underwhelmed every time. As a matter of fact 3 of the 4 I bought last never made it out of the box, sat on the counter for a week and finally went in the trash.

I am not a fan of CamiCakes at all. I have tried her cupcakes and they were not impressing. I say that because I was expecting a cupcake not based off of a vanilla or chocolate cupcake. The strawberry was dry and the vanilla/chocolate was okay. I have not had GiGi’s yet, but from what I can see she has wayyyyyyyyyy to much icing on her cupcakes. Out of all the cupcake bakeries I have been to, I would have to say Atlanta Cupcake Factory are my favorite because their cakes are actually flavored and not a vanilla or chocolate cake. I didn’t know so many people didn’t know what a real cupcake taste like….so sad!

Little Cakes in Sandy Springs! She uses fresh ingredients and her frostings are NOT made with shortening! I wasn’t impressed with Cami Cakes- it seemed the only frosting option was cream cheese which seemed to melt as soon as you left the store. Overall, the best cupcake I *ever* had was from Trophy in Seattle.

My husband and I visited Jilly’s Cupcakery in Alpharetta with a couple of friends. We bought a huge variety of cupcakes – unfortunately we were very disappointed. I thought Red Velvet cupcakes should be RED … not the burnt brown color mine were! We all felt our cupcakes were dry (like they had been left out for a day) and tasteless. By all the rave reviews above, maybe we went on a bad day. I felt so bad for our friends, that I went home and baked them some “real” cupcakes!

The Strawberry cupcake from Sweet Justice is the best I’ve ever had! The Carrot cupcake is equally delicious because the flavors come together really well. The sweetness from the cream cheese icing carries the cake without providing an intense overwhelming sugar rush. I’ve visited a few cupcakeries in Atlanta. Camicake was not good to me. I bought the red velvet and the lemon drop. By the time I gave my fiance’ the lemon drop (about 2 hours after I bought it), the bottom of the box had a huge oil stain. The red velvet was dry and tasted like white cake with red dye. As soon as he took a bite of the lemon drop, he looked at me and asked if he had to eat anymore. So I haven’t been back.
I’ve had cupcakes from the Cupcake Factory and wasn’t impressed with them either. Too much icing for the cake size and the cake wasn’t good.
I love A Piece of Cake’s red velvet. It’s huge, has the right icing to cake ratio and taste like red velvet should.
When they were in business, Chocolate Pink had a lovely red velvet. I miss them.

I love Cami Cakes! However, I wish they would invest in more cupcake friendly packaging to keep the cakes separate. I often end up with butter stains showing on the outside of the box. This isn’t overly appealing, but the cakes for fantastic! Sometimes, you can’t judge a book by its cover.

I use to be die hard Cami. They are now #2. The best cupcake is Whimsical in Grayson, GA. I thought there was no one who could ever take Cami but Whimsical Sweets bake Shop does it well. The red velvet cupcake are the best. They also have brownies. If you don’t think Whimsical is better I am willing to pay for your cupcake. The very best cupcakes are at “The Cup” its located in a new community “Town Brookhaven” off of Peachtree Rd very near Oglethrope University. The cupcakes are a nice size (not huge) and delicious. I would have to recommend Pink Cupcake Dreams (www.pinkcupcakedreams.com) hands down! Some of the best cupcakes I have ever tasted! And I eat a lot of them. Not well known but definitely a player is “Cake Hag”. Their cupcakes are tremendous, especially the gluten free carrot cake ones. I don’t normally like carrot cake, but these are amazing. Maggie, the owner, puts a chunk of pineapple in the middle for a little extra sweetness. Awesome stuff.

LilyTorte Cupcakes are the BEST! I haven’t tried a flavor I did not like. I ordered several dozen in a variety of flavors for a party, and they were all phenomenal. They were so good that some of the kids even said “Eat them slowly to make it last longer.” Can’t get much higher praise than that!
The cake portion is always moist – but not soggy, and the frostings are simply divine. If you love cupcakes, you’ve got to try these.

If you have not had Pink Cupcake Dreams, you are definitely missing out. They are made to order and they are the best cupcakes I’ve ever tasted. The icing is not too sweet and the cake portion is moist. I’ve purchased cupcakes that were still moist days later. I’m not a big chocolate fan but the Better than Sex cupcakes hit the SPOT! And of course, the tipsy cakes are great for tailgating. Yes, I bring cupcakes to the tailgate.

I just hosted a cupcake tasting party this past weekend where some friends and I tasted vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and a “specialty” cake from each of 4 local Atl. bakeries – Gigi’s, CamiCakes, McEntyre’s, and Caryn’s Cakes.
The results were: vanilla 1st place – Gigi’s, 2nd place – CamiCakes;
chocolate 1st place – CamiCakes, 2nd place- Gigi’s;
strawberry 1st place – Gigi’s, 2nd place McEntyre’s;
and specialty 1st place – Gigi’s Kentucky Bourbon, 2nd place- McEntyre’s Carrot Cake.
Gigi’s was the overall winner! CamiCakes and McEntyre’s were tied for 2nd.

After having a great lunch with a great friend, I was treated to a cupcake at Gigi’s (Norcross). I bought the chocolate salted caramel (what’s not too like, the name says it all). The cupcake was awful! For starters there was little to no… cake, it was all icing and the cake had a gummy consistency. The icing was soooooo sweet that i picked it up in one glop and tossed it in the trash. The only taste that I got of salted caramel was a mild aftertaste from the caramel center. Maybe the cake would have been better if there had been more of it (what little there was stuck mostly to the paper liner) and a lot less icing. Honestly it just tasted like a sugar block. I hate to write such a negative review but I was so disappointed.

The Great Cupcake Company in Buckhead a couple of stores down from Felleni’s Pizza. They have just opened in the last month or two. I’m an icing gal, but I actually eat and enjoy the cake part of these cupcakes which says alot for me. Go check them out on Peachtree Rd. I heard about it when AJC’s own Jenny Turknett mentioned it.

I can’t believe so many are voting for Gigi’s. Those are not cupcakes. They are scoops of icing atop a cake crust. Again, Cami Cakes gets my vote. They have the perfect ratio of cake to icing, and the texture and flavors are perfection.

Really surpised to see Jill’s Cupcakery get so much credit. The concept of the different cupcakes is attractive and inviting but I find they are dry. Even my non discerning children pass on their cupcakes. A Piece of Cake cupcakes, like their cakes, are my default when it comes to cupcakes. Theo’s Brothers Bakery makes a good cupcake although they aren’t part of the normal rotation.

I’ve tried several bakeries around town, and Atlanta Cupcake Factory’s are the best – a great balance between frosting and cake and creative and delicious combinations. Super moist cupcakes and real butter frosting. Every kind is delicious! Please spare me the cupcakes with Crisco frosting and tasteless cake.

I agree with CupcakeLover: Cupcake Factory in VA Highlands is the best. YumYum Cupcakes (Food Trucks) are good too. Cami Cupcakes are just too ordinary and Lenox Cupcakes are way too Sweet. Besides Cami cupcakes are over priced.. And NO Way are Publix Cupcakes any good.. they aren’t cupcakes..
