YOUR PICKS
1. Chequer’s Seafood Grill
You say, “Their crab cakes are made with lump white crab meat, have no breading, and are held together with their special ingredient and herbs. They are served with two wonderful on the side sauces. I grew up in Savannah, went crabbing as a child, have had home made as well as restaurant crab cakes all my life. I love sea food! I have been sending and taking friends and family members to Chequer’s for a number of years and all have been delighted with their crab cakes.”

OUR PICKS
1. Legal Sea Foods
The AJC dining team’s specialist in Southern and Neighborhood Fare Jenny Turknett says, “If you are a fan of the typical flat, heavily-breaded crab cake, the one at Legal Sea Foods is not for you. The crab cake here is more mound than cake with a generous portion of jumbo lump crab piled high. The minimal breading comes from crumbled crackers and the crab is served with a heavy-on-the-horseradish mustard sauce.”

The absolute best crab cakes in the USA are found at Chequer’s Seafood Grill near Perimeter Mall in Atlanta, GA. Their crab cakes are made with lump white crab meat, have no breading, and are held together with their special ingredient and herbs. They are served with two wonderful on the side sauces. I grew up in Savannah, went crabbing as a child, have had home made as well as restaurant crab cakes all my life. I love sea food! I agree with Seafood Queen, Barbara Jean’s has the best crabcakes. You can order them online also. For the Atlanta area, Pappadeuxs!

Sandra Rayburn is right. Chequer’s is the best in town. The rest of their food is great too. That’s why they’ve been in business for 25 years in a town where restaurants come and go overnight.

Pdubatl is correct if it’s the G&M that I’m thinking about, not too far from BWI airport. I used to go to Baltimore twice a year and stopped at G&M at least once per trip. Definitely the best I have ever had. Locally, sounds like I need to get to Chequer’s.

Another vote for Chequers. Basically, nothing more than big chunks of crab meat and a little bit of seasoning, loosely stuck together and run under the broiler. No excess breading and nothing to take away from the taste of the crab.

Well there’s so many crab cake suggestions I’ll throw in for the Best Devil Crab and that would be Brocato’s in Tampa at East Columbus Dr. & 50th Street since 1948. If many of you are wondering what a devil crab is, it’s packed with blue crab meat then lightly breaded and then deep fried and they’re out of this world.
