The AJC dining team’s specialist in Southern and Neighborhood Fare Jenny Turknett says, “As skilled as Linton Hopkins is at vegetable cookery, it should come as no surprise that his restaurant leads the pack with its pickled vegetables. At Holeman & Finch, you’ll find pickled beets, garlic scapes, jalapenos and more, but the pickled green tomatoes are my favorite. They have the perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors. The pickled green tomatoes are served with the chicken liver pate, but I could eat them as my meal — or my dessert!”

Awhile back I ordered the pot roast at West Egg. When the dish arrived there were three pickled okra on top of the meat. Hmmmm….., I thought, but what the hell, so I tried them and they were very good!! The pickled ocra may not be the “best” in town, but they were my introduction. I’ve always enjoyed pickles, so it sounds like an interesting new trend.

The Flip Boutique in Buckhead – lunch was all about the pickles that were with the pimento cheese burger. I am still thinking about them, best pickles i ever ate. The only word I can think of about the pickling is “bright.”

I like Phickles Pickles. However they are not just at one spot in Atlanta. They are at several. And to the person that commented above about their employees being out in full force…they only have one employee. :) But they DO have many friends and fans because their products are so yummy and they are so nice! I vote Phickles!

Curry & Echols Hot & Salty from McDonough are utter addiction material. But obviously I have to try the Phickles. I also love the pickled red tomatoes you can get in many of the eastern European groceries around town. We tend only to pickle green ones, but in eastern Europe including Russia, the taste is for pickled red tomatoes, and these guys are on to something.
