Best pulled pork

The pulled pork at Fox Bros. is your pick for the best in and around Atlanta. That side of collard greens is pretty tasty, too. Photo: Becky Stein / Special

YOUR PICKS
1. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
You say, “I’ve never met a pulled Q sandwich I didn’t like….but Fox Brothers is really, really good” and “very good on a sandwich but even better as part of the Texas Fries.”

OUR PICKS
1. Beaver Creek Biscuit Company and Barbeque
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “The pulled pork served at Beaver Creek Biscuit Company is perfectly moist and smokey, with generous chunks of crunchy bark mixed in with the meat. When ordering the pork plate, make sure that you specify that you want it pulled and not chopped, and top it off with some of their delicious mustard and vinegar based “Seminole sauce.’”

“The guy who ran the place in Beachton, GA retired and the guy who bought the business doesn’t seem to use wood.”

From what I understand most BBQ joints actually cook the meat on gas smokers . The best bbq I ever had a friend of a neighbor cooked on a converted 55 gallon drum smoker . Really amazing.I would have to believe the best bbq should be cooked at home if motivated.

Not sure why people like Edward had to bring race into a discussion about BBQ but it’s completely uncecessary. Anyway, the best pulled pork sandwich I’ve had so far (and I haven’t sampled all the places) is PIT BOSS BBQ on Virginia Ave in Hapeville. Don’t go to Hambones across the street….go straight to PIT BOSS. It is delicious!!!!!!!!!!! The service is friendly as well. It’s located behind a liquor store and you can even byob.

Whoever said Dean’s in Jonesboro needs to be shot. That is some of the nastiest stuff I have ever had in my life!!!! So, so, so gross I can’t even put it into words. It’s like mincemeat with a disgusting sauce. Never again.

The Iron Pig in Jefferson is amazing! Not too dry, not too moist, not too fatty, not too lean. Perfect texture and great smoked taste. The sauce is a great compliment. Takes your breath just a little as you put it in your mouth, soon after the tastes just start exploding in your mouth. Could drink the sauce by the cup fulls. Also the Brunswick stew and strawberry cobbler are killer. I drive 20 mins every couple of weeks just to eat there.

I’m all for the AJC deleting comments that are not referencing PULLED PORK in ATLANTA. Since Harold’s is not PULLED, it does not qualify.

In the immediate Atlanta region (~10 miles of I-285), I’d go with Wallace in Austell. Wonderful sauce, too; I’ve never had anything like it.

Hey Real, Maybe it’s because you’re black, but you’re the only one so far that feels the need to type in ALL CAPS. CAN’T YOU SEE HOW ANNOYING THAT IS? There’s a little key on the left side of your keyboard marked “Caps Lock”. Please press it once, then you’ll be able to type like a normal person. As for BBQ, I haven’t been to all the places mentioned, but I do know JR’s is excellent. Col. Poole’s in Ellijay is good too.

gagirl, I can tell you’re from Georgia because your reading comprehension is sorely lacking. My post was a critique of a previous poster who introduced the “race card” to the discussion. I was merely using sarcasm to counter his idiotic diatribe. Maybe you could add some more exclamation points to really give your ramblings some pop.

I’ve always liked the pulled pork at that little shack in Stone Mountain. Maybe called Crazy Ron’s. Been there for years. Just a little trailer with a couple of outdoor picnic tables and Ron (I guess that’s his name) is a really nice guy.

Ok, so your all a bunch of illiterate people that have very little taste and think chain restaurants are the BOMB! (Not all of you, You know who You are) This is a blog about the BEST OF BIG A!!! Not Best of Big Ga or Big South!! Step it up people! For those of you that think sauce makes the BBQ, I am sorry but sauce only covers up poorly cooked meat! Pulled pork should have a nice smoke ring (pink color) and a nice bark.

I will show you the way to:
