Best pulled pork

The pulled pork at Fox Bros. is your pick for the best in and around Atlanta. That side of collard greens is pretty tasty, too. Photo: Becky Stein / Special

YOUR PICKS
1. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
You say, “I’ve never met a pulled Q sandwich I didn’t like….but Fox Brothers is really, really good” and “very good on a sandwich but even better as part of the Texas Fries.”

2. Pig-N-Chik
3. Sam’s BBQ1
4. Community Q
5. Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q
6. Daddy D’z
7. Dave Poe’s BBQ

OUR PICKS
1. Beaver Creek Biscuit Company and Barbeque
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “The pulled pork served at Beaver Creek Biscuit Company is perfectly moist and smokey, with generous chunks of crunchy bark mixed in with the meat. When ordering the pork plate, make sure that you specify that you want it pulled and not chopped, and top it off with some of their delicious mustard and vinegar based “Seminole sauce.’”

Oh Hollywood! I almost forgot about Dusty’s. Hated to see it go. My son actually worked there one summer. North Carolina BBQ down to the Cheerwine they served. Hope Pig N Chick can do as well there.

I was unimpressed with Fox bros, and repulsed by Swallow at the Hollow. Do negative votes count?

Sorry, southerners..I am a yankee, but lived in ATL for 15 years, and though Fatt Matt’s is pretty good, you have to come to Albany, New York to DINOSAUR’s BBQ….Out-freaking-standing…2 hour wait, any day, any time, and worth every minute of it…

You can’t get it but once a month, but Smokey’s is a bbq concession at Scott’s Antique Market. You’ll never get a better meat or sauce!

Sonny’s is to barbecue as McDonald’s is to hamburgers and French fries.
Don’t get to ATL, but if there’s anything better than Fresh Air in Jackson/Macon or Fincher’s in Macon I need to know!

The guy who ran the place in Beachton, GA retired and the guy who bought the business doesn’t seem to use wood.

Fox Brothers pork has a weird, liver-like taste. Maddy’s in Decatur is so much better.

I live in Charotte and NC BBQ sux. Pippens in Conyers and FreshAir BBQ in Jackson. There is no brunswick stew in NC, what is that about?

I meant to say Old Clinton instead of Fincher’s. Been a while since I’ve been to Fincher’s.

If you can handle the drive, Mad Dog’s in Conyers is the best BBQ I have ever had and I don’t even like BBQ that much. My husband usually forces me to try BBQ but I LOVE Mad Dog’s.

If the drive is too much definitely Fox Bros or Harold’s.

Williamson Bros is the best. Fox Bros. sux, and the service is terrible.

Rolling Bones had the best brisket I’ve ever had east of the Mississippi, when I went back in ‘07.

Why do we talk about outside Atlanta?
Cause it’s never too far to look for a good pork sandwich, and some of us ride the backroads from time to time. Share the word outside 285!

Keep It Real is another ignorant racist Black who always denigrate anything NOT Black. To each his own. Great bar-b-cue is a subjective taste. Who’s to say your taste is better than mine? It’s ALL good. To inject Race into this blog defines “wrong” and tells much about about the blogger.

I’m with the lady who posted earlier: I get my barbecue shipped from eastern NC. Having lived on the NC coast for a number of years, I became addicted. The sight and smell of red sauce-drenched pork that is served in most places I’ve visited since returning home to Georgia actually makes me
feel ill.

Grew up in Memphis. Since moving to Atlanta, the best pulled pork I’ve found is at Pig & Chik on Peachtree Industrial. Daddy Dz on Memorial was decent as well. Lived across the street from Fat Matts, terrible pulled pork.

People, please, stop with the Community Q. It’s ok. It only gets great reviews by people because until Burnt Fork opened it was the only bbq in Decatur. Burnt Fork is good. Been twice since it opened in January. First time, you couldn’t taste the smoke. Last weekend, much better.

My vote is for Daddy D’s.

Harold’s is the standard that all BBQ restaurants are judged by, but they don’t “pull pork”. They slice from a ham and then chop, pulled usually comes from the shoulder (called a butt) and does not have the big parts that can be sliced. The Brunswick stew at Harold’s is the best stew anywhere, but the cracklin’ bread has fallen down as of late. Still worth the drive south of Turner Field.
