Best pulled pork

The pulled pork at Fox Bros. is your pick for the best in and around Atlanta. That side of collard greens is pretty tasty, too. Photo: Becky Stein / Special

YOUR PICKS
1. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
You say, “I’ve never met a pulled Q sandwich I didn’t like….but Fox Brothers is really, really good” and “very good on a sandwich but even better as part of the Texas Fries.”

2. Pig-N-Chik
3. Sam’s BBQ1
4. Community Q
5. Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q
6. Daddy D’z
7. Dave Poe’s BBQ

OUR PICKS
1. Beaver Creek Biscuit Company and Barbeque
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “The pulled pork served at Beaver Creek Biscuit Company is perfectly moist and smokey, with generous chunks of crunchy bark mixed in with the meat. When ordering the pork plate, make sure that you specify that you want it pulled and not chopped, and top it off with some of their delicious mustard and vinegar based “Seminole sauce.’”

P.S. If Scott’s in Cartersville is anything like Scott’s in N.C. or related to them, you have a treat on your hands (and face)! It’s REAL BBQ!!!

I second the Mad Dogs in Conyers. And Grandma, I don’t agree that it is just the sauce that makes a sandwhich, it is a synthesis of the two – and if you haven’t found a sauce in GA that isn’t 99% ketchup, you haven’t eaten at very many places or looked very hard.

I love the gently pulled hunks at Pig and Chick.

Fox Bros. is good too, but it can be a long wait.

Dave Poes is a great smoke but their sauce is, um,…..

Love Fatt Matts, but then again, they don’t do pulled pork.

Wallace BBQ in Austell is the best is the state. The best BBQ in the country comes from Fred Cotton’s in Jacksonville. These are the facts.

Keep IT REAL….you say because you are black you know Bar-B-Que. Now that is just plain stupid. What does the color of anyone’s skin have to do with how they judge food. My mother was Irish and she was an award winning cook! GO FIGURE

Dennis your are right……..Boston Butt is just Boston Butt, but not everyone knows how to cook them. At the end the sauce is key to good pulled pork.

Born in the heart of Atlanta at Piedmont Hospital and lived here all my life. I’ve seen and eaten it all – and hands down – Old Hickory House on LaVista Rd and in Dunwoody. Time tested and still the best. As far as newcomer’s go – head to dba Barbeque on Virginia Highland near Ponce. Pretty amazing for the new kid on the block.

Community BBQ in Decatur is by far the best of the best. There may be imitators, but this relatively new place has got it right!! Pulled or chopped your choice, but mine is the beef brisket! Try it once and you will return to Community!

swallow in the hollow in Roswell–True pulled pork is NOT slathered in sauce, but just nice, juicy roasted pork. If you must put sauce on it, they have 4 kinds of sauces to add, including a Lexington NC vinegar sauce to keep my tarheel husband happy. And the home made banana pudding is to die for there.

Going to Macon for State Tournament in March…always Fresh Air BBQ in Jackson(been going there since 1960 and will be there next month; in Oakwood for BBQ it is Smokehouse on weekends……..really no-brainer for these two

Gotta vote for Hambones in Hapeville for intown BBQ. Outside (and still in GA) would probably be Speedy Pig in Fayettville.

I am from NC and nothing here compares to the pulled pork in Eastern NC. I do like Fox. Bros. Never been a fan of Fat Matts. drenched in too much sauce, yuck.

Best pulled pork in ATL is Community BBQ on Clairmont. It pains me to say any BBQ joint inside the perimeter is the best but… Community is the bomb!

Fresh Air in Flovilla (near Jackson) is better than in Macon (although Macon is still VERY good), plus the Flovilla location is an expierence.

Anybody mentioned Daddy D’z in Grant Park on Memorial? While not as good as Fresh Air, it is good stuff.

By far the best pork, mainly cause of the sauce, was Chef Pete’s or AKA the Louisiana Cajun Cook, he was of winters chapel in a small building in the parking lot before they forced him out, then went on to another location off of Spaulding, BEST in TOWN, just don’t know where they are anymore????
