Best pulled pork

The pulled pork at Fox Bros. is your pick for the best in and around Atlanta. That side of collard greens is pretty tasty, too. Photo: Becky Stein / Special

YOUR PICKS
1. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
You say, “I’ve never met a pulled Q sandwich I didn’t like….but Fox Brothers is really, really good” and “very good on a sandwich but even better as part of the Texas Fries.”

2. Pig-N-Chik
3. Sam’s BBQ1
4. Community Q
5. Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q
6. Daddy D’z
7. Dave Poe’s BBQ

OUR PICKS
1. Beaver Creek Biscuit Company and Barbeque
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “The pulled pork served at Beaver Creek Biscuit Company is perfectly moist and smokey, with generous chunks of crunchy bark mixed in with the meat. When ordering the pork plate, make sure that you specify that you want it pulled and not chopped, and top it off with some of their delicious mustard and vinegar based “Seminole sauce.’”

3. Boner’s BBQ
4. Dave Poe’s BBQ/Sam’s BBQ1
5. Heirloom Market BBQ

Slopes in Alpharetta is my favorite for pulled pork, but you just can’t beat the brunswick stew at Harold’s!

Scott’s Walk up Barbeque “SWUB” in Cartersville. Best pulled pork with three great sauces-although, I am partial to the Carolina Sauce.

I like Bilbo’s Barbecue in Bremen for all my pit-cooked-vittle needs.

Prime Rib (Saturdays Only) is terrific as well.

Love Fox-Bros, Pig N Chick, and Fatt Matt’s. One of my new favorites is Heirloom Market BBQ up in NW Atlanta. Very solid.

Pig ‘n’ Chic at the corner of Peachtree Road and Clairmont. Needs no sauce. Melts in your mouth. Mmmm.

Oooh, forgot about the DBA Archie Bunker (good call, Edward). Not an apples-to-apples comparison with some of these others, but that thing is AMAZING…

Fox Bros and DBA BBQ have the most choices and best BBQ. Fat Matt is the best BBQ joint for music.

Why do all the retarded people mention BBQ that is 100 miles from ATL, What was the question? It happens every year if you don’t like any BBQ in ATL, don’t chime in!

Not only, Harold (Jr), but his wife (Frances), older brother (Don) and his mom (Mrs Hembree) have all passed away within the last 4 years. Sadly, so has the quality of the food.

Pig N Chik is the best I have found. Yes, I have tried them all as I love my pulled pork. I have lived here for 18 years and I have tried them all inside and within 10 miles of 285.

fes: give up on #1 and go to Jimmy’s; the meat is better and the hot sause is better
JoeV: who are you kidding! We are not judging the sides and the ambiance, just the meat, plus I can’t spend my whole paycheck on a BBQ dinner

Pig and Chick is good, Community Q is good, Swallow in the Hollow is good even on nights with no entertainment

Scott’s walk up barbecue in Cartersville has excellent pulled pork sandwiches. Thee Brunswick stew is also out of this world good. Try it and you’ll love it!

I’m hesitant to name my favorite pulled pork place for fear it will become overrun. The best barbecue in Atlanta is Garden Produce & Country store by a long shot.

‘Cue and Swallow at the Hallow are decent, but if you want pulled pork done right, you need to cook it yourself. I started smoking pork butts at home and they turned out way, way, WAY better than anything I’ve had locally. No fat and I control the sauce. At $1.39 a pound at Kroger for a butt, you can’t beat the price, either.

Holcomb’s in White Plains on Highway 15 is the best I’ve ever had. Excellent smoked pork and a tangy vinegar sauce. Only open Fridays and Saturdays. Sawdust floor. We’ve been stopping there on the way to Athens for years. I always get two extras for a little something on up the road.

My house! Hands down. 12-15 hours, slowed cooked on my Big Green Egg with a mildly sweet apple and cherry wood smoke. Best pulled pork I have ever tasted.

There’s plenty of decent BBQ in Atlanta, but Hickory Pig is revelatory. It’s almost a two hour drive up to Gainesville for me… but oh so worth it.

Pig N Chik has the best pulled pork. Fox has the best smoked wings. Multiple places have good ribs, such as Fox and Swallow, depending on your style preference. Hard to find the best stew. Hickory House did about 20 yrs ago.

Finchers in Macon and outer space. Also Clinton BBQ in Gray. I have had some very good pulled pork all over the southeast. The smoke taste was good, but the BBQ sauce makes the pulled pork.

I agree…anyone can pull pork to make a sandwich…it’s the SAUCE that makes it, and I have YET to find a sauce in Ga. that isn’t 99% ketchup! Want REAL BBQ sauce? You’ll have to go to N.C. I still order mine by mail from them. It’s the vinegar/sugar type, and it’s MAHHHHHVELOUS! (It’s also the only place to get real corn-pone for fried cornbread. That cakey stuff isn’t cornbread.)
