Best pulled pork

The pulled pork at Fox Bros. is your pick for the best in and around Atlanta. That side of collard greens is pretty tasty, too. Photo: Becky Stein / Special

YOUR PICKS
1. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
You say, “I’ve never met a pulled Q sandwich I didn’t like….but Fox Brothers is really, really good” and “very good on a sandwich but even better as part of the Texas Fries.”

2. Pig-N-Chik
3. Sam’s BBQ1
4. Community Q
5. Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q
6. Daddy D’z
7. Dave Poe’s BBQ

OUR PICKS
1. Beaver Creek Biscuit Company and Barbeque
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “The pulled pork served at Beaver Creek Biscuit Company is perfectly moist and smokey, with generous chunks of crunchy bark mixed in with the meat. When ordering the pork plate, make sure that you specify that you want it pulled and not chopped, and top it off with some of their delicious mustard and vinegar based “Seminole sauce.’”

‘Cue in Alpahretta/Milton is hands down the best in town. (This coming from a Memphis boy who has BBQ sauce running in his veins.)

Was Harold’s recently sold or something? Younger waitresses, cash only and the food was blah when I was there last week.

Fox Bros BBQ has good pulled pork and good brisket.

Mad Dog’s and Bradley’s, both in Conyers, are better than anything Atlanta has to offer. Fat Matt’s has a solid rib sandwich, but their pork sandwich is terrible.

Wallace BBQ in Austell is the best! They also have the best onion rings in metro Atlanta BTW (sorry, the Varsity comes in 2nd, and I write that as a GT alum that makes sure to get my dose of the Varsity just about every time I visit my old stomping grounds of the ATL)…

The Archie Bunker sandwich (pulled pork, mac&cheese, sauce on garlicy texas toast) at DBA Barbecue is mighty good. The pulled pork at Fox Bros. is hard to beat, though.

Smokehouse BBQ in Oakwood, Ga. Been around for over 20 years and only open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, which just makes demand even higher. The pork is always pleasantly smoky and moist, and never fatty or greasy. As a plus, the Brunswick stew and nanner pudding are to die for.

Firstly- Is there a more overrated restaurant in the city and possibly the country than Fatt Matts? I even heard it called out as a great BBQ spot in a movie recently. Its horrible. As someone above said- the pulled pork is like what you would get at camp out of a can. Premixed with sauce. Garbage.

Secondly- someone else commented above that they were wondering if Harolds had been sold and I had the same question when I was in there. I went there 10 or so years ago and it was delicious. I returned about 6 months ago and will never go back. The pulled pork was watery and had no flavor. The contrast was so stark I think it has to be new ownership.

Fox Bros is very good. Old Brick Pit has great ribs. Have never tried some of the other ones. I think as long as you stay away from Fatt Matts and Harolds you cant go wrong.

Williamson Bros is bland.
Fat Matt’s is fatty = gross.
Sonny’s is super duper gross.

My top 3 (in no particular order) are:
1) Wyatt’s Country BBQ
2) Dean’s Barbecue
3) Daddy D’z

Honorable Mention: Fox Bros (they have it at SOB every Thurs for Trivia)

Harold Jr. Passed last year and it has gone down the drain. I have been going there for 30 years and was appalled at the service, cleanliness, etc. The stew was as always great but it was cold. I have not been back since then.
