The pulled pork at Fox Bros. is your pick for the best in and around Atlanta. That side of collard greens is pretty tasty, too. Photo: Becky Stein / Special

OUR PICKS
1. Beaver Creek Biscuit Company and Barbeque
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “The pulled pork served at Beaver Creek Biscuit Company is perfectly moist and smokey, with generous chunks of crunchy bark mixed in with the meat. When ordering the pork plate, make sure that you specify that you want it pulled and not chopped, and top it off with some of their delicious mustard and vinegar based “Seminole sauce.’”

My favorite Q in the Atlanta area is The Old Brickpit on Peachtree Road north or Oglethorpe. Great pork with no fat and not lathered in sauce, the vinegar based sauce is added when served – or served on the side.

Fat Matt’s bbq pork sandwich literally tastes like the bbq you buy at the grocery store in the plastic container and reheat in the microwave at home.
Fox Bros bbq pork is so much better than Fat Matts and its not even close.

Sam’s BBQ #1, no doubt about it. And I think that if anybody nominates a restaurant that serves only “chopped” pork and not true “pulled” pork, that there nomination should automatically be disqualified. Barbeque was not meant to be sucked through a straw, but unfortunately that is the consistency created when the meat is chopped up as fine as many place artound here chop it up.

BBQ1 is the best I’ve had. Its moist, tender and tasty. Doesn’t require sauce, but their sauce is so good you can’t help yourself. Their ribs are just as good and the beef brisket is even better!
Now I’m going to have to get some on the way home….YUM!!

Fox bro’s is great but $9 and an hour wait for dried out bbq is getting old.
Billy Jack’s BBQ and Shrimp on Collier may not be part of the hipster bbq bandwagon, but they pile their sandwich high with tangy sauces. Give it a try and then start hating.

JR’s B-B-Q on P-Tree Industrial in Norcross. The pulled pork alone is so tender, tasty and juicy. You can eat it naked or on a bun with or without sauce. It’s the best!!!

Wait a minute, are all black people experts on BBQ suddenly? But, then you invalidate that assertion by claiming superiority for Fat Matt’s, so then, by inference, because you are black you do NOT know good BBQ. See how that works?
