Best Valentine dining

A big juicy steak is a must at Ruth's Chris Steak House, but don't forget the decadent Chocolate Sin Cake to complete that Valentine's Day dinner.

The AJC dining team’s specialist in Southern and Neighborhood Fare Jenny Turknett says, “Set on the Chattahoochee River, Canoe is warm and relaxed — perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner.  With its high level of service, you can be confident you will taken care of at Canoe. Knowledgeable servers are happy to discuss the menu and make recommendations for entrees and wine pairings. Full-flavored and well-crafted, the varied entrees offer something for everyone.  Don’t miss the beautiful and delicious desserts by Canoe’s talented pastry chef, Thomas Numprasong.  Before leaving, sneak around to the back for a quick — though brisk — stroll by the river for a perfect ending to your Valentine’s Day meal.”

The wife and I kind of like the prix fixe menu, even though we pronounce it so both words rhyme with “trix are for kids.” We get to try weird things (on the dinner plate, gutter minds!) that we probably wouldn’t order on a regular day–and, to tell you the truth, probably wouldn’t order again, but that’s the nature of the prix fixe. The best place to go for Valentine’s Day–or any day for that matter–is Trader Vic’s. Order up a couple of Suffering B-tards or Tortugas before dinner, and you won’t care WHAT they decide to feed you. Everything’s great there, prix fixe or no.

As a lifelong restaurant employee, I can tell you, Valentines, New Years Eve, and Mothers’ Day are the absolute worst days to dine out. All the “amateurs” and “once a year” types pack in and make for a cluster f*** of a date. Give me a nice, special home cooked meal and a great bottle of wine any day.

We always go to Franco’s on Cheshire Bridge and then on to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for desert and dancing.

Pano’s & Paul’s makes a great menu for Valentine’s Day and they have booths that you can get that give splendor and privacy. The food is superb and the wait staff exceptionally attentive. So many of the restaurants I see listed here are chain eateries. You can go to them any time. On Valentine’s Day, try something special.

The most romantic place possible – http://www.montaluce.com – you’ll think you’re in Italy. They’ve got a great deal for Valentines day too….a special meal the 11th, 12th or 13th.

Big Daddy, you don’t get out much do you? Hasn’t Pano’s & Paul’s been closed for almost 2 years now?

Prix fixe is great a restaurant that does it to showcase its specialties, not just to make a holiday easier.

@HP – if that many people are “complaining” then they probably have a point! We’re not haters, we are just folks who have better ways to enjoy time with our sweethearts than fight crowds at a restaurant. We are people who don’t have to follow the crowds and go out to eat on one of the busiest dining evening of the year just because it is expected. There is just nothing romantic about stressing over reservations, wait times, busy staff, and “special” menus with inflated prices.

Don’t worry, we have the love. We can go out for a nice dinner any other night of the year when the pace and prices are more relaxed.
