YOUR PICKS
1. Chepe’s Mexican Grill
You say, “Chepe’s Mexican Grill is by far the best taco place in Georgia. Their fish tacos, tender tacos and taco trio have no comparison … outstanding service, clean restaurant, helpful waitstaff and margaritas to die for put them head and shoulders above the competition.”

2. Taqueria del Sol
3. Holy Taco
4. Nuevo Laredo Cantina
5. El Taco Veloz
6. Tin Lizzy’s Cantina

OUR PICKS
1. Taco L1000000
Gene Lee, Food and More blogger on international cuisine, says, “This place is run out of a truck that can’t actually be mobile due to Georgia laws. Their tacos are simply topped with onions and cilantro and served on two warmed corn tortillas. Like true authentic tacos, these are not drowned in processed cheese or ketchupy salsa. They can be ordered with chicken, carne asada, pastor or offal, and they are all delicious.”

2. Taqueria San Pancho
3. El Senor Taco
4. Holy Taco
5. El Rey del Taco

The best Tacos in Georgia can be found at El Mercadito on Atlanta Hwy in Gainesville.
These are authentic Tacos, stuffed with either pork(carnitas), beef(barbacoa) or lungua (tongue), served on double pan seared El Milagro corn tortilla’s with cilantro, onion and a squeeze of lime. Large squeeze bottles of Green Tomatillo and Red dried chile salsa’s are available for your liberal use. This is a Mexican market, not a restaurant, standing room only. Get a Mandarina or Sangria soda from the cooler then order/pay for your tacos, go to the back of the store and present your ticket for your made to order lunch!
The best part is these tacos will only set you back $1.50 each! My family has been eating here for years and I’ve taken many friends there. The friendly owner Gabriel moved here from Riverside, CA and runs a neat, clean, organized little market! I am Hispanic of Spanish descent, my family has been in TX and NM since the 14th century. I have lived all over the southwest US and California, even grew up working in the family Spanish food restaurant business…. I know good, authentic food….you’ll love ‘em ( and if you think the tacos are good, they have BIG pork stuffed tamales on the weekends for $1!! and the ceviche is to die for!!)

Atlanta has many good taquerias: el rey, el senor taco, mega taco, san pancho, and several others I’m sure. I like warm, soft corn tortillas although I believe that flour is traditional with fish tacos.

The tamales at the Buhi FM are excellent, too. But don’t buy them all before I get over there.

No reason to run this one – nothing on earth compares to the fish taco (and guac, & shrimp & corn chowder) at Taqueria Del Sol. As the fellow above said, I don’t stand in line anywhere else to eat. Delicious food and good company, and 2 can fill up for $15.

Los Rayos on Buford Highway is where the tacos live. Taqueria del Sol hates their customers – long lines, short hours, attitude and they make the cashier pour the margaritas – like I have time to be treated like that. Pure is just weakness on a torn corn tortilla. I pity the fool who thinks Pure is a taco.

The best taco of any kind are the fish tacos at Mezcalito’s in Oakhurst. The fish selection changes daily and the fish is always super fresh tasting and the filling is just right–a great crunchy and bright slaw to compliment the fish.

Are we reviewing tacos the food, or tacos the trendy food like item? If there is more than one white person in the place, it’s probably a trendy taco, not a real one.

For authentic tacos, Carniceria Rameriz and Taco Veloz are solid. Though, I have heard amazing things about Taqueria Oaxaquena (as another post mentioned). For non-authentic, but highly delectable tacos, Holy Taco and Taqueria Del Sol are amazing.

There are lots of places that have 1 good taco…and they truly are good at it. But at the end of the day, TdS is the only right answer. Every single one of their tacos is at least competitive with any of the other “best” tacos out there and you can get them all in one place for the right amount of money.

count_schemula,

Thanks for the pretentious post lecturing everyone about the differences between authentic and inauthentic tacos. While I appreciate your being evidently entrenched in the “real taco” scene, it’s worth noting that “trendy tacos”, like those at Taqueria Del Sol, can be every bit as wonderful as authentic tacos–they’re just different.

There used to be a trailer that served tacos in Lilburn in the parking lot of the Shell station on the corner of Beaver Ruin and Burns Road (kind of sketchy looking, but really good tacos). Since that’s not there anymore, here is the order I have since that’s not around anymore.

1.) Taqueria Los Hermanos (Lilburn, Sugar Loaf)
2.) Taqueria Del Sol (Their Corona Fish tacos are good, but it’s a special that isn’t a permanent menu item)
3.) Holy Taco
4.) Raging Burrito

No problem. I just hate to see places like Pure touted as tacos. It’s a franchise concept. They are in it for the money, not the food. I like TDS, I just won’t go there and to see the loafer and leased BMW set fawning so hard for fried chicken on a cold flour tortilla with a smear of fancy mayo.

I suppose that’s fair enough, count_schemula. I have not eaten at PURE, but my wife has and she said it was terrible.

On a related note, I suppose some of you taco fans are also burrito fans. If so, be sure to check out the somewhat newish “Bell St. Burritos” in Sweet Auburn Market–best burrito in town. Solid tacos to boot, but get the burrito.
