YOUR PICKS
1. Barker’s Red Hots
You say, “Barker’s – No one even compares. Water pulls the flavor out of the dog. Barker’s are grilled over real charcoal. Try their signature dog!! Dogs made by a 142 year old meat packer out of Buffalo, N.Y. Awesome rings and fries and their Bomb Italian Sausage – unbelievable. Wash it all down with a Loganberry and you died and went to heaven.”

OUR PICKS
1. Brandi’s World Famous Hot Dogs
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “Open only for lunch, you will always find this small diner-style hot dog shop in Marietta packed to the brim with regulars, and for good reason. Their spicy chili dogs are the epitome of a Georgia-style hot dog, and the best that I’ve had in the city.”

I love the Varsity as well as a native but Bobby G’s are a close second. His dogs and his food are like visiting Chicago, where i travelled for years. (no I dont work there)

Really?????

The Varsity?? Costco?? Really Atlanta?? Cmon!!! In GA, Mike’s in Sandy Springs is definitely number one! But if you decide to venture out of the south on vacation this winter, try Red Rover at the top of Snowshoe Ski Resort in WV. Best I’ve tasted yet!!

Everyone talks about the Varsity but if you had a dog from CJ’s in McDonough you’d never go anywhere else for a dog. Great food, great staff. Order it “All the Way”, you won’t be disappointed.

We also got the Best Soft Drink Ever – Co-Coler! (A perfect match with a Varsity Dog and a bag o’ rags!)

Nehi used to be pretty good too, but that was before they changed the name to RC and they got bought out by some ferrin company.

And we had the Best Great Tree until they moved it to Buckhead. Now it’s just the Pretty Good Tree.

While the Varsity has nostalgia, it really isnt the greatest. I only eat their on game day, the rest I go to other places… Better burgers at the Vortex as well.

Look, in the spirit of the season, everyone is entitled to their opinion of what consitutes the “best” hot dot in town. And I will defend to the death your right to be completely wrong about it, too. Besides, it’s not your fault that your taste buds just don’t work all that well…

JDO, I will give you the burgers at the Vortex (best decor there, too!), but this is about Hawt Dawgs. (Yeah, I nose, I strayed from the subject a bit too. As Steve Martin would say, “Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuse ME!”

Nu-Way in Macon is the best in the area, Yellow Jackets in Ellenwood best in(near) Atlanta. The Varsity isn’t in the running.

The Varsity has a lot of nostalgia but you pay dearly for it. You can’t even get a free refill on your Coke? I was born and raised here and grew up loving the Varsity, but the owners seem to be sticking it to the people who have made their business great, the customers.

Saugy hot dogs in Rhode Island are great. As for Atlanta, of all the dogs I’ve tried I have to say I like the Varsity’s the best.

I must admit that the Sam’s Club Hotdog is pretty darn good, and their pizza is great as well…. Varsity is more of a feel good hot dog, its a tradition here that we grew up on… Dairy Queen and Sonic have a pretty good dog as well. This might sound out of proportion but try the Kroger brand beef franks (bun length), they are very underrated!!!!!

Unfortunately, I have to go with SAM’S CLUB. At least it’s a Nathans dog. The Varsity is over-rated overpriced nostalgia. Like Krystal. Steak n Shake also has a decent dog, and you can’t beat those skinny fries fresh from the fryer!

Does anyone ever really enjoy the actual taste of a hot dog that much? It is more about the environment that you eat it in. Therefore, it’s Turner Field or The Varsity.

Manuel’s Tavern…’nuf said. If you don’t agree you have obviously never had a cold one and a dog at the bar. The ‘V’ ain’t the only Atlanta Institution. Make sure you salute Manuel when you go.

Varsity of course, if you want the best chili dog in town. CJ’s in McDonough is good if you like toasted buns. Zesto’s has the best footlongs.

I don’t really like hot dogs, but I asked my husband and he said QT. Ugh! He doesn’t think Varsity is very good. I’m an Atlanta native so I grew up eating Varsity, but haven’t been there in years. Since the Food Network I think they’ve gotten a little too expensive and commercialized. I do, however, love love love an F.O. from the Varsity!

The hot dog at Bone gardens that is only served at lunch is not only the best hot dog in Atlanta, but probably one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever had. Everyone has to try it. It’s not like anything you’ve ever had.

Best dawgs are at Rivals in Loganville…better hurry, tho…they’re closing this Friday at 3PM after a valiant effort by Chuck and family to make a go at the New Kroger Shopping Center. Second only to the Varsity. Maybe a miracle~??? Some kinda delicious and a loss to Loganville if we lose them.
