YOUR PICKS
1. Barker’s Red Hots
You say, “Barker’s – No one even compares. Water pulls the flavor out of the dog. Barker’s are grilled over real charcoal. Try their signature dog!! Dogs made by a 142 year old meat packer out of Buffalo, N.Y. Awesome rings and fries and their Bomb Italian Sausage – unbelievable. Wash it all down with a Loganberry and you died and went to heaven.”

OUR PICKS
1. Brandi’s World Famous Hot Dogs
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “Open only for lunch, you will always find this small diner-style hot dog shop in Marietta packed to the brim with regulars, and for good reason. Their spicy chili dogs are the epitome of a Georgia-style hot dog, and the best that I’ve had in the city.”

These responses are just further proof of the “Lack of Culture” in Atlanta. Why else whould anyone asked to pick the “best” hot dog select the Varsity hot dog? Why does Georgia, and specifically Atlanta, stay in the trap of steadfast tradition and never reach out to improve its image? You all know there are better hot dogs in Atlanta than the totally mediocre Varsity dog. Wake up, Atlanta!

If you havent had a Hail Mary from Rivals Dude your missing out if your a Dawg fan . Two 1/4 pound All beef dogs deep fried topped with That awesome homemade chili , yella mustard , onions , shredded cheddar , That tangy sweet PINK slaw that rocks the tastebuds and oyster crackers on the side with a order of southern taters – hand cut french fries no frozen fries smothered in the chili and cheddar . I drive 45 minutes for my fix hey Rivals open one in Athens Please . Oh and the atmosphere is as the name implies Ga bulldog Ga Tech Ga acc sec stuff fill the walls as well as the local rivals two or three highschools cool place great food Yea Hail Mary and Rivals gets my vote.

The Varsity may be the most overrated hot dog house i’ve ever eaten at. they are the plainest, worst tasting, soggiest hotdogs ever. I don’t see how anyone can call it the best. Just because it’s a tradition doesn’t make it anywhere near the best. Actually, none of it’s sandwiches can be quantified as the best!!!

What makes a great restaurant? The food, the ambiance, the service – BARKERS scores big on all three. Try the original dog topped with their famous hot sauce and vadalia onion slaw with an order of fresh battered onion rings – nothing better PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surely the editors will invalidate all of the crap postings for Rivals and CJs. Spamming an online forum, especially so obviously (you idiots do see that your posts are timestamped, right????), is simply annoying and makes me actively NOT want to try your pathetic offerings. I hope you close permanently and are never allowed to open a business again.

As we all know, food really does taste better cooked over charcoal. Barkers cooks all their dogs and sausages over lump charcoal just the way you like it right in front of your eyes. They cook everything in an open kitchen which is the cleanest kitchen in town. If you have never been to Barkers you really don’t know what you are missing there is nothing like it. I love the original red hot!!!

Varsity wins for ATL, but the best Chili Dog in the world is Skin’s in SC. The original is in Anderson with 8-10 more around Greenville, Clemson and Seneca.

Varsity hot dogs are tasteless tubes of unknown animal origin. But emotion and tradition certainly will garner the VArsity a lot of votes.

Serious hot dog lovers will generally opt for natural skin weiners. I haven’t eaten at every hot dog grill, but Mike’s Dogs in Sandy Springs puts out a darn good Vienna beef product with great buns and toppings. You can actually taste the seasonings in the hot dog…..not that it matters to some folks.

What happened to Barker’s? They had carts in downtown Atlanta and one year they were sold outside the GT football games. They are great!

If you just look back over this page prior to Eds comment and pages prior Barkers has more votes than either cjs or rivals and no mention of them being cheeters or spamming .Seems it would be simple to figure out what establishment this individual owns . The AJC has a means of keeping it fair when nominations are tallied I assure you. Hope all this negativity directed at some of these establishments dont come back to bite you .

Anyone that says they won’t try food from an establishment and hope they close because of comments on a forum is cruel and cutting off your nose to spite your face. Rivals has a fantastic hot dog (I love the chili/cheese) and the most incredible fries. Don’t even get me started on owner, Chuck Sasser. He ran out into the parking lot to grab us one day after we had eaten there JUST to give my son a piece of candy and thank us for coming. Another time we were in there and my son wanted a 50 cent bouncy ball out of a machine. My husband and I didn’t have any change on us, but Chuck had heard the whole thing. He handed my son two quarters for that ball.
So I ask, where else can you eat fantastic food and be in the presence of such kindness? I assure you that Rivals is it.
I truly pity the haters.

I haven’t read all the posts and won’t , but it seems we ventured outside atl to the Nu way. If you want to include good dogs, go to Americus and try Monroe’s “best dog bitten by man”. Classic red weiner which you can get with all the traditional toppings. Hard to eat $5.00 worth with their inexpensive prices.
