AJC Food and More Southern and neighborhood fare blogger Jenny Turknett says, “This Alpharetta spot has an undiscovered gem: the red velvet cake. Stacked four layers high and dusted with red velvet crumbs, this cake is not only gorgeous but is incredibly moist.  The thick layers of cream cheese frosting – not overly sweet – are more like cheesecake than frosting.  This cake is my hands-down favorite red velvet cake around.”

The best red velvet cake I’ve had is from Piece of Cake off of Roswell Road in Buckhead. There are two other locations in Decatur and Roswell. Definitely the most delicious Red Velvet I’ve ever had!

Definitely Piece of Cake off Roswell Road… AMAZING.

Also though Henri’s (sp?) bakery in Marietta… he’s Paula Deen’s cousin and the red velvet there is awesome.

Sweet Blessings on Flat Shoals Road tops them all. Their traditional double layer Red Velvet and the 1/2 and 1/2 with one layer of Red Velvet and one layer of Key Lime. To die for!

If you could handle a slight twist to the classic favorite, try the red velvet cheesecake at Fox Bro’s BBQ. It’s incredible! They only have it on certain holidays but it’s totally worth the wait!

Gabriels’s Desserts in Marietta. Johnnie Gabriel, Marietta’s “cake lady” and cousin of Paula Deen, has one of the best red velvet cakes I have ever eaten.

I don’t want to sound like a know-it-all, but I think the poster is wrong about Henri being Paul Deen’s cousin. It is a woman named Johnnie and her restaurant is located in Marietta. Henri’s is a Cajun place in Acworth.

My mother…hands down. If you have worked around the Cobb County Court House, the Georgia Senate Budget Office or the Board of Regents Office, you have been one of the few, the lucky ones to eat her cake. I’ve tried others and no one holds a candle to it!

The Red Velvet cake at Piece-of-Cake is delightful, but the service and attitude of the workers at the Roswell location are not appealing. I wish the personality of their employees matched the taste of their cakes.

There is a lady in Athens that makes cakes for Last Resort Grill and The Grit. Last Resort normally has her red velvet, and it is by far the best one I’ve ever had. Gabriel’s is nice but not even close.
