1. The Colonnade

You say, “The Colonnade by far. Not only is it not greasy, it’s crunchy and the meat is moist, not to mention the fact that the pieces look like they came from turkeys, not chickens. No way to eat an order by yourself unless you haven’t eaten for a week, but man, great leftovers.”

OUR PICKS

1. Busy Bee Cafe
Food and beverage writer Bob Townsend says, “Open since 1947, Busy Bee Cafe in southwest Atlanta is a soul food institution, with good reason. The wonderful fried chicken tops the menu every day. Marinated for 12 hours, lightly breaded and well-seasoned, it’s deep-fried in peanut oil. As the menu promises, the skin is ‘a crisp golden brown’ and the meat is ‘moist, juicy and beelicious’.”

3. Watershed
4. Wisteria

Watershed! They only serve it on Tuesday, but it is the best around!

There’s no such thing as bad fried chicken imho. It’s like first love and home-grown tomatoes — there are no “bad” ones. There is perfectly OK fried chicken and then there is heavenly fried chicken. I think Greenwood’s on Green Street in Roswell falls into the latter category.

South City Kitchen, for sure, or Watershed. Both are perfect – not greasy, flaky, and pretty much dissolve in your mouth. Other than what I make at home, they’re about all I’ll eat out.

If I’m in a hurry and am super lazy, though, Publix’s isn’t half bad, and is reasonably priced. Kroger and wal-mart’s, though, I won’t touch w/a 10 foot pole. Ew.

Carver’s Country Kitchen in downtown Atlanta has some really good fried chicken as well as several other southern classics. If you’re downtown for lunch and looking for some good southern food check out Carver’s, it isn’t fancy but the food is always delicious.

JCT on the West Side has fantastic fried chicken, for lunch over a salad or the full meal deal at night. And if you are lucky enough to go to an event that they cater you can experience fried chicken on a stick with honey drizzled on top.

Well of course the best place is my mom’s kitchen! Other than that Busy Bee Cafe, or Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles! MMMMM my mouth is watering, just thinking about fried chicken!!!!!

…Gladys Knight’s chicken may be the worst chicken I have ever ecperienced, and I am an Atlanta native and know good chicken when I have it, and Gladys does not have it…now Greenwood’s on Green Street in Roswell does have it…

Publix? Seriously? I’m not a food snob but their coating is more salty than crispy, toothsome or well, flavorful. May as well be salt/crumbly eggshell.

All that salt but the chicken itself doesn’t taste seasoned.
