YOUR PICKS
1. Mama’s Pizza
You say, “Having traveled extensively throughout the U.S., I have sampled many of the best pizza joints available. As a charter member of one of the best informational sites available, pizzatherapy.com, I can state unequivocally that nothing in Atlanta compares to the likes of Pepe’s or Sally’s or Modern in New Haven, several in New York or a few others from D.C. to L.A.
I’ve eaten at several of those nominated herein, but my favorite continues to be Mama’s in Alpharetta. I’ve patronized Jimmy’s place for more than 20 years and have never once been disappointed. No frou-frou, just simple, plain adherence to the basics – great crust, sauce and cheese. And very generous toppings.
It’s somewhat remote for in-town Atlantans, but do yourselves a favor and give it a try if you’re seeking no-nonsense N.Y. style pizza served by a smiling, attentive staff. I’ve patronized this place for more than 20 years and followed their various incarnations in Roswell, Canton and Alpharetta. I’ve entertained my family, staff, relatives and friends many times and never once been disappointed.”

OUR PICKS
1. Varasano’s Pizzeria
Food and beverage writer Bob Townsend says, “Jeff Varasano is a mad scientist of pizza. So what if he doesn’t use traditional Italian ingredients or wood-burning ovens? The proof is in the great crusts and refined flavors of his pies. One taste of a thin, puffed-up, yet perfectly crispy pizza topped with an unlikely but wonderful combo of sweet caramelized onions and sharp Emmenthaler cheese says it all.”

JLY – You haven’t seen Hearth mentioned that much because we have been spammed by all the NY pizza lovers. It’s kinda like going to a car website and seeing all the rave reviews of Honda Accords when you are in the market for a Mercedes.

is by far the best pizza and it is only in Chicago. If you ever have a chance you can order it frozen and delivered but it’s best served at the restaurant. Better than all the deep dish pizzas including Uno’s where Lou Malnati was actually the bartender originally.

For a full service restaurant with great pizza I give it to Varasano’s. Antico has great pizza but isn’t really a restaurant.

Shorty’s is nice. I also like Mo’s on Briarcliff.
I know this is for pizza in Atlanta, but I have to mention Theo’s Pizza on the beach road in Destin. My absolute favorite all time pizza! It’s a cool funky joint with great entertainment, too. Don’t let the bikers out front scare you. It’s family friendly!

Actually, it’s Paisano’s in old town Norcross. I hear told that it’s made with real NY water! That’s the pizza difference – it’s the water. So to get real NY pizza, you need real NY water!

Yes I second the Casa Mia- nothing has ever come close. That guy still lives here in town-last I heard he was in some seafood place in Kennesaw. His pies were as good as anything NY ever had to offer-I say we as Atlantan’s get him to open up again somewhere!!! We need that pie. (best for now is probably antica).
