OUR PICKS

1. Fado Irish Pub

Food and beverage writer Bob Townsend says, “As a hangover cure, the traditional Irish breakfast — a groaning mass of eggs, Irish sausages and bacon, black pudding, white pudding, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and bread — has its own decadent appeal. That’s particularly true when it’s served up with a pint. At Fado, all that can be had day or night.”

4. Waffle House

I like to go to Waffle House when I’m hungover. It’s a combination of greasy food, cheap eats, close proximity to where ever I crashed and lack of required dress attire. Let me explain, first off I always crave eggs after a night of drinking. And if I’m that hungover where I need food now, then I must have spent a ton of money – so I need to go somewhere cheap. I swear, there’s a Waffle House every other intersection in the south, so there’s always one close by. Lastly, let’s be honest, Waffle House is not known for it’s upscale environment – so I’m usually either in my pajamas or in the alcohol stained, cigarette smelling clothes from last night. With my smudged makeup still on and I fit right in. Only downfall, there’s usually a wait but it’s much shorter there than anywhere else on a weekend morning.

Ambience: Front Page News for ambience with sitting in the courtyard, listening to the jazz band, and having a bloody mary from the bloody mary bar (when I’m hungover I just have them do it for me) – but the food sucks.

Bagel Palace for some great breakfast food.

A large Bloody Mary and then the Majestic Diner. It’s not sexy but perfect for re-greasing a raw stomach.

I love Meehans although I hate the temptation of their bottomless Mimosa’s :-) – beats the purpose of going over to nurse a hangover :) ha! ha! The OK Cafe is not bad either.

Waffle House, the Majestic or anywhere else that will serve a cheeseburger in the morning.

The left over Krystals in the fridge from the slider run made on the way home, will do in a pinch.

The Cross-Eyed Scramble–and any other item–at Gato Bizco (The Cross-Eyed Cat) in Candler Park is not to be missed! It’s directly across from Flying Biscuit. The food is better. The vibe truer to the L5P neighborhood. And there’s usually no wait. Enjoy!

What restaurant serves the breakfast that is pictured? That looks awesome. Also, i think it is kind of stupid to title the article where to get the best hangover breakfast. Why not just say where to get the best breakfast.

Ole Guy

The big question is not so much where to find the best breakfast, but where to find a restaurant with bar stools that don’t keep falling over. Strange how the bar stools at Dennys are quite stable during daylight hours and early evening. At some point during the evening, they seem to be a mite woobly…come daylight and they’re once again quite stable.

“…better able to;” excuse me. Must be the hangover.

@William Oliver: yeah, there’s something comforting about angry old waitresses and lipstick marks on your coffee cup. That’s the only place that can get away with it for some reason. It’s like the A.M version of the Clermont lounge.

I dunno. When I have a hang over, I don’t want to drive OR ride any further than I have to. This is Atlanta, there’s an Awful Waffle on the corner close by no matter WHERE in Atlanta you are. I’d have to vote Awful Waffle. I mean Waffle House.

Besides, they are used to dealing with drunks and hung over people. The waitresses are careful not to pop their gum loudly in your ear and step away before they scream your order to the cook………..
