Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “The AJC has printed the recipe not once, but twice in our food pages, and it remains one of our readers’ favorites on accessAtlanta.com. Owner David Roberts uses rigatoni pasta, coats it with sharp cheddar, Monterey jack and Parmesan cheeses and lots of heavy cream, then bakes it until it melds into a mass of oozing, cheesy, almost unidentifiable heaven.”

I just brought mine from home for lunch today, see I do not go out and buy anything that I can make better. I go out to be treated to something delish, that I don’t make – know what I mean? and if it has velvetta in it, it is NOT Macaroni and CHEESE – it is mac and something else. If you put ham and/or onions in it then it becomes a casserole, NOT Macaroni and Cheese – and My Momma makes it better than me. Peace

Definitely Dave Poe’s BBQ off Whitlock in Marietta. So good, it is the mac and cheese I make at home.

Community Q is the Yum-zilla of ATL Mac n’ Cheese! I also second the vote for COAST. Their shrimp and bacon Mac n’ Cheese was really great but not much else was. Sorry Gorgeous George. Whamp Wham Whaaaaaamp!

Gotta be Community Q in Decatur!!! The calorie count is over the moon but so worth it. The AJC has printed the recipe some time ago. It is delicious!

One correction: Dave Poe’s BBQ’s Mac and Cheese is the best in Cobb and Community Q is the best in Decatur. Big rigatoni noodles, three cheeses, and heavy cream—Can I get a witness! The recipe was originally created by Dave Roberts (owner of Community Q) when he and Dave Poe were in business together. The two guys are still good friends.

Busy Bee Cafe has the best M&C in the city, besides my mothers kitchen, and the best soul food overall. It’s the closest to southern home cookin!

Carvers, its a hole in the wall place, they make EVERYTHING from scratch and its cheap. It looks like an old grocery store. It is the best southern food you will ever have besides someones mamma or grandmamma cooking it up!

Mac and cheese is easy: whoever puts these ingredients together has something excellent: good noodles, butter, milk or cream, cheese – maybe some toasted butter toast on top if you want to be authentic. then salt and pepper. Note, though, these ingredients are pretty deadly: cholesterol, fat, and so on…..

In addition to his BBQ my Daddy also makes a mean mac & cheese casserole. It’s so much better than any stupid restaurant on this list, he likes to call it the ‘9th wonder of the world’ (his BBQ is the 8th). Unfortunately though when my uncle’s around (which has been a lot lately-personal issues) he can’t make it. We’ve caught my uncle on not one but two different occasions pulling an American Pie on Daddy’s mac & cheese on the kitchen counter. The last time was on Christmas day and kids saw so…. we have to keep mac & cheese away from him.
