Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “The AJC has printed the recipe not once, but twice in our food pages, and it remains one of our readers’ favorites on accessAtlanta.com. Owner David Roberts uses rigatoni pasta, coats it with sharp cheddar, Monterey jack and Parmesan cheeses and lots of heavy cream, then bakes it until it melds into a mass of oozing, cheesy, almost unidentifiable heaven.”

Clarification – Community Barbecue’s isn’t actually made with macaroni, but I think it fits in with the spirit of the question.

Soul Vegetarian’s macaroni & soy cheese is indescribably good — very creamy and savory. I prefer it over the traditional kind.

So, it’s been years since I’ve had good MacNCheese in ATL, but the best I know of is at the Grit in Athens. AND, it’s in their cookbook, so you can make it at home! You can rest assured I’m going to hit Community Q, OK Cafe, and South City Kitchen to give them all a try. Apparently they all have a good following.

4 Season’s lobster mac and cheese is excellent, but I’m not sure who sells the best basic mac n cheese (no fancy truffle oils or lobster, etc…)…I think my traditional mac n cheese is the best

Murphy’s is a relatively new addition to the menu and it is killer, but anything with Truffle oil is pretty good. Captal Grill has an amazing Lobster Mac.

You don’t tend to think of Picadilly as a classy restaurant with good food, but the one in Tucker blows many of the more expensive establishments away. I give all credit to the New Orlean’s born manager who knows how to bring that type of restaurant into cafeteria style setting. Everything they serve is great, tastes very fresh and home made.

Ms Chic on Broad St in Fairburn. It’s real baked macaroni & cheese and not that stuff mixed with cheese sauce. Can’t get enough!
