Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “Chef-owner Linton Hopkins has turned this lovely Buckhead gem into a four-star destination. And one of the best places to enjoy his offerings is at the bar, where the lively, old-fashioned cocktails pair beautifully with the kitchen’s well-sourced meats and vegetables.”

I’ve never been upstairs at Shout, but the picture accompanying this post makes it look tempting.
When the St. Regis isn’t busy, it’s a very nice place to sit at the bar and have dinner.

Union Square in NYC is my #1 in the world followed by RAO’s in Vegas. Oh you said Atlanta. Sorry! WOW I just get my brain to work tonight. I was thinking about higher end although I did love my last FLIP bar experience though. I would say also that anywhere Jimmy head Sushi Chef for Here to Serve restaurants is always stellar. He and his Son where manning the Sushi Bar at STRIP at my last visit and I had the best SUSHI dining experience and I has some money left over too boot. Super hi quality product, presentation, and preparation along with Jimmy’s awesome smile and personality.

I enjoy eating at the bar at Ted’s. It’s usually way less crowded, and the service is always good at the bar. Plus you never have to go through the “My name is Gidget and I’ll be taking care of you tonight” routine while they try to recite the specials from memory.

Feast in Decatur. I have gone there by myself a number of times when I just wanted a good meal and sat at the bar. All the servers are friendly, the chef making food in the brick oven is fun to watch (there’s also a TV), and you can usually start up a conversation with the person sitting next to you very easily. Great place.

Before its demise, Capo’s in VaHi had the best bar at which to eat a meal. You could watch the chef create your delicious fettucini in the(fine) diner decor before it became a stylish trend. It was one of the very first neighborhood bistros in town. The space is now ocupied by LaTavola, decidedly un-bar-worthy.

Upstairs bar at the Brick Store Pub. Bar at the Prado Five Seasons gets high marks from me, too.
In terms of everyday service (i.e. lunchtime), I gotta give props to my man Keenan at Rocky Mountain Pizza. Yeah, the place is a serious dive, but where else can you get cheap beer, edible food (perhaps the best muffaletta in ATL), and good service (at the bar, at least).

My friends and I are avid bar diners. Among the best are Ecco, JCT Upstairs, Chops (they treat you like royalty), Highland Tap, Tap in Midtown, Miller Union, Bocado, Antica Posta, Silk. Ecco is probably my fave for bar dining. The bartenders are all very smart, knowledgeable about the wines, chatty, but never smarmy or condescending. Great people watching. Good lighting.

Manuel’s.
The last few posts got it right. Great food, great service. Family owned and a GREAT portrait across from the bar. Get the bartender to tell the story of how Manuel (God rest his soul) came to acquire it.
