1) Tamarind Seed Thai Bistro

AJC dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “No restaurant in Atlanta creates the fire show that is great Thai food with quite the amount of flavor and finesse as Tamarind Seed Thai Bistro.  Along with some of the best fish dishes the city has to offer, the classic Thai salads are small universes of enjoyment.”

Thai Restaurant of Norcross — our standard since the 80’s. When we’re really in the mood for Thai, we always hop in the car to go there. It’s not in our neighborhood, but it’s worth the drive.

We all know the best Thai Restaurant in ATL is Nan. Go to any other thai restaurant and ask the workers and they will tell you the same.

Nan is by far the best Thai in Atlanta. Went to Surin a couple of weeks ago and it was not that great, and definitely not of Nan’s caliber.

There are many passable strip center options, but for serious Thai head for Tamarind Seed, Nan, or Spoon. The new Tuc Tuc Thai loft is also excellent and offers a different menu.

I’m boring when it comes to Thai – I pretty much get Pad See Ew every time I go. Based on that criteria, I say Malaya on Collier in the shopping center just “below” the Publix shopping center.

Mint on Clairmont south of PDK Airport is consistently wonderful, uses high-quality ingredients (never any gristle in the chicken, etc.), and has an extensive menu. I love Nan, but Mint is affordable and always great. Most people don’t know about it because of the location.

Nan is very good but too expensive. Thaicoon is Marietta is just as good and reasonbly priced so it wins in my book. Surin is totally average but get votes because it’s in town. Yum Yum and Little Bangkok suck-out-loud. Tamerand is nice but more show than substance.

Siam Square on Windy Hill is an excellent and believe it or not “NYC feel” Thai restaurant. Similar to the gem that is Tasty China (the Szchuan place), Siam Square is worth driving to. It is also very well priced. Both are within a mile of each other.
The owners of Siam Square are Thai and very warm and gracious.
