1) Tasty China
Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “This gem is one of the best Sichuan restaurants in the area, even though some of my favorites, such as the scallion bubble pancakes, left with the exit of chef Peter Chang years ago. … It’s still hard to beat its fiery version of dan dan noodles, with spaghetti-like noodles, vegetables and lots of chili oil.” See her complete round-up for more on each of these Chinese treasures.

If you want to judge what is the best “real” Chinese food, count how many Chinese people are eating their the next time you visit. If mostly Caucasian and Mexican patrons, you are not in a good Chinese restaurant.

There really is some phenomenal Chinese food in Atlanta – both on and off Buford Highway. Unfortunately, the understanding of ethnic food in Atlanta does not in general run very deep and I hesitate to share some of the better places here, as I’ve seen too many bashed in public forums like these. If you like Americanized Chinese – that’s great, there seem to be plenty of offerings in that space. If you really want to get deeper into some of the best of Atlanta’s ethnic cuisines, I’d suggest digging around Atlanta’s food blogging community. There are quite a few people putting some pretty serious work into discovering and explaining the incredible food scene this town has to offer.

When weighing price verses quality – there are some hidden gems out there.
I wont give names … I’m not advertising — just drive there and enjoy the food
– The restaurant on Chamblee tucker Road – Buford Hwy heading S from 285 – Right on C.T. road – it’s on the right. It’s always a treat – less common dishes and superb quality.
– The jewel of Buford Hwy …. it’s between Pinetree Plaza and McClave Drive (northbound side) – The seafood dishes are the best
– Clairmont has two restaurants – one just south of N Druid Hills and the other just before N Decatur Rd (both on the northbound side)
– Cobb: Go north on 41, turn right @ the Big Chicken , and it’s under the bridge on the left – (shouldn’t all directions should include the Big Chicken)
– Cobb: go WAY up 41 to the Cobb/ Bartow line – Find the Ceadercrest Publix – then left two doors , have your choice of excellent Chinese or Japanese Hibachi – both outstanding and fairly priced.
– If you’re on Pleasant Hill – go to P’tree Industrial and in front of the Kroger there’s a green place that’s great.
– Southside … well … there’s a great place on Eisenhower (Macon) and the one Abercorn just N of the mall (Savannah) are worth the time.
– Dalton – Walnut and Thornton – the best buffet in Georgia
OK – the last ones are a stretch – but if you’re in that area you’ll have a known haven for good Chinese

Being a fan of Chinese; I like the House of Chan in Marietta, I also enjoy Xin Xin. Long time ago Atlanta had its own authentic restaurant called Hontos, too bad they are nolonger in business. I also enjoy PF Changs but there portions are small.
