You say, “Our family has a tradition of eating at Chepe’s on Friday nights. We love the food, the service and the atmosphere. Everything we have eaten has been awesome and the staff is so very friendly and efficient. Sometimes there is a wait, but it’s well worth it, I promise.”

Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “No place serves the mystery that is masa as well as this real-deal joint in Jonesboro. This is soul food, Mexican-style, and specializing in the wonders of Oaxaca.” See her complete round-up for more on each of these Mexican marvels.

Nuevo Laredo is an over-hyped yuppie hell-hole. Average at best. Their cheese is obviously Velveeta.
La Parilla in Alpharetta is the best mex in the city. Everything fresh, nothing from a can. And they hire intelligent, hard-working servers.
It’s always clean, Margaritas are not too sweet, and the mariachi band takes requests.

Taqueria Los Hermanos in Tucker. Best chicken tortilla soup ever! Wonderful fish tacos and nightly specials that are out of this world.
Nuevo Laredo Cantina. Best tamales in town! (I’m not crazy about the chicken in the chicken taco salad, though. It’s a little too Americanized.)

I’m amazed to see Nuevo Laredo so often. It’s truly no better than El Azteca or any other generic Americanized Mexican food. It scores with atmosphere and crowds, but the food is sorely boring and over rated. In fact, it’s the most over rated place in Atlanta. Have I stirred the pot yet?
If you want outstanding Mexican, you have to try two places; Pure Taqueria (my personal favorite) and Bone Garden, a new place off Howell Mill, not far from Nuevo.
Pure’s menu is off-the-hook. The Crab Fritters, Salmon Tostopos are just the start of something truly special. Don’t get me started on their Queso Fundido with Chorizo and roasted jalepeno.
A new Pure Taqueria location opened up across from Fritti’s in Inman Park.

After reading some of the other comments, I’ll have to agree that Nuevo Laredo (except for the tamles) has yuppie food, but the fun, lively atmosphere makes it worth the trip.
JIMBOB, I agree with you about Monterrey and El Toro at Northlake, but I don’t see that Eduardoes is any different. Monterrey is my favorite of the 3 mediocres, mainly because we’ve been going there for 20 years and our daughters still crave it on occasion(even though they both live downtown where all the really cool restaurants are, they still want to come out to Northlake for Monterrey. Go figure.)

MARQUITO’S off of Roswell Rd in Sandy Springs. It’s been there for years, like 20 years I believe. Longer than most of the places on this list and that says alot! Watch out for the Margarita’s, they tend to sneek up on me.

El Tesoro in Decatur – amazingly delicious Mexican food with a creative twist. The duck tacos are to die for, as are the refried black beans and chile corn. Great atmosphere, and an extensive tequila list make this a terrific place for a tasty group meal.

The best taqueria hands down is and will always be La Taqueria Oaxaquena. The other restaurants mostly serve an “American” version of what an authentic taco should be. I like the real deal, not a watered down American version. http://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-la-oaxaquena-jonesboro

A good hole in the wall joint is El Tacazo. It’s in duluth/lawrencevill on pleasant hill rd near the intersection of hwy 29. It’s across the street from Berkmar High School. Try the steak burrito there. It is humongous and delicious. Good luck if you have heartburn though

Please keep going to chain mexican restaurants and thinking they are good…don’t open your eyes and ears and head to Buford Highway where you can get real, amazing mexican food. Of course if you did go to El Rey Del Taco, you wouldn’t know what anything on the menu was anyway…because it’s real mexican food.

I still miss Frijoleros! Nuevo Laredo is way over rated. Bone Garden, El Taco Veloz are far superior. Actually if you’ve ever worked in an Atlanta restaurant you’d know it’s all “authentic” Mexican, if you know what I mean
