OUR PICKS

Bambinelli’s on Northlake Parkway, Atlanta. This small, family-owned restaurant consistently serves delectable, satisfying Italian. Owner Bonnie Bambinelli nearly always in the house to ensure huge portions and wonderful hospitality. Recommended for families and anyone seeking “the real deal” in Italian cuisine.

I will gladly drive across town to Cheshire Bridge to enjoy Alfredo’s! The “Godfather” is a fantastic sampling of veal dishes and I always feel like I’m in an authentic Italian place. I also think Pricci is great for an entirely different atmosphere. For a quick meal before a movie or concert, sitting at the bar and enjoying tuna carpacio and a flat bread pizza is hard to beat.

Provino’s. No one can touch them for food and service. In 30+ years I’ve never had a bad meal or poor service there.

A little known place called Casa Nuevo on Highway 9. Consistently excellent and reasonable prices.
Also, this article would not be complete without paying respects to Arbrucci, closed for years now, but absolutely splendid. Greetings Nico!

Hands down the BEST Pizza in the state of Georgia is at a hole in the wall called “Pies On” in Fayetteville. I never would have believed it until I ate there. I dont care where you live in this city. You have to go to Fayetteville for the best Pizza.

Frankie’s Canton Rd.; we’ve been going there for years and have never had a bad meal.
Ippolito’s has great rolls; but their food is aweful.
Maggiano’s couldn’t be that bad; its packed every time I go into one Perimeter/Cumberland/Buckhead)

Mama Maria’s in Covington across from Nagoya. Owner & Chef is Italian – food is fabulous. What is up with everyone saying a CHAIN restaurant is tops??? Having lived in Atlanta for a long time, Nino’s, Alfredo’s, and La Grotta will always make me smile.

I’ve lived all over Atlanta in the last five years, in and outside the perimeter. Dekalb, Fulton, Gwinnett and Cobb, and I have an Italian grandmother. The best?

1. Dominicks in Norcross (Great casual family style)
2. Veni Vedi Vici (Authentic, upscale)
3. Pizzeria Fortunato in Smyrna (Best pizza anywhere south of Staten Island)

Provino’s Italian Restaurant. Period. Hands down. Select ingredients, great flavor, perfect atmosphere, hand-picked servers.

Ask for Steve in Kennesaw. Best salad and rolls on the planet. Get the cheesecake for desert. Go for the birthday special. They are so good they had to open up for lunch at 11:30 daily. I dropped by during Christmas shopping and found a line waiting for them to open.

Kara….We put an end to the Atlanta is Atlanta and nothing else should be considered. Marietta, etc is in fact considered Metro Atlanta and the metro area pumps more money into the city than you understand. Please stop the snobby attitude and get over yourself. And yes I live in the city of Atlanta.

And until you have sat down at the table on an Italian grandmother, you fools have no idea what good italian food is. There are some good Italian restaurants in town but nothing spectacular.

Casanuova in Alpharetta. The owners established several of the finest Italian restaurants in Atlanta and are still working their magic near their farm where they raise much of what they serve. Plus you are treated like a member of the extended family by Maria and her staff.

Mike

I can’t believe I got to the end of the first page before seeing someone recommend La Grotta.

The problem, of course, is that it’s upscale and not that many people have actually eaten there.

That’s a general criticism I have of these “Best Of” surveys – if you vote for the best place you’ve actually been to, then you get Olive Garden as the runaway winner. But if you vote for the best place you’ve heard of, then there’s a chance it will go to a place that’s past its prime.

(I used to love Camille’s in Va-Hi, but my last experience there was AWFUL. Maybe they were trying to scare away the customers in anticipation of closing down?)

Amalfi in Roswell. I don’t go to Italian restaurants for the rolls and salad. They make great appetizers, pastas, seafood, and veal. Don’t leave without trying the ricotta cheesecake. Worth every calorie.
