Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “L’Thai’s tom-kha is a silken bowl of sweet-yet-sour soup layered with the flavors of broth and coconut milk and peppered with bright cilantro, all highlighted by unimaginably fresh tofu. One sip, and you won’t need Calgon to take you away.”

Agree with Steve about the 57th Fighter Group comments, they all sound like they were written by the same 1 or 2 people.
Although I did have the beer cheese soup there back in the 80s and it was pretty darn good.

Mitchell at MetroFresh spent a good amount of time training with Souper Jenny. Love both their offerings, but SJ is number one in my book! Agree with Jalisco and Doc Chey’s votes. For pure indulgence, though, nothing beats a big ol’ bowl (or about 3 cups at Sunday brunch) of Capital City Club’s vichyssoise!

Dynamic Dish makes amazing soups. The south Indian rasam at Whole Foods (Ponce) is surprisingly good, as well, and so is the tomato soup at Flying Biscuit.

Also, the absolute best french onion soup at Violette off of Clairmont Road. If you’ve never been you need to try this restaurant. It’s a bit pricey, around $80 for two, but incredible french cuisine without the attitudes.

The chicken tortilla soup at SOHO in Vinings. Generous portion of chicken with tortilla chips, tomatoes, corn, avocado, cheese and chilies. They say it’s been on the menu for 12 years because people love it. I agree. Yum!

The Tortilla soup at Houstons! First place I ever had it, back in the 80’s, I think. They have it on Tues and Thurs. Chicken Tortilla soup at Mi Mexico. Hands down, best Mexican chicken soup. Also, the Sweet Beef soup at Crossroads Grill in Sugar Hill. It’s the same recipe from the first Longhorn in Buckhead some 20 something years ago.

You should visit the Nordstrom Cafe’s (Perimeter and Phipps Plaza). They make every soup from scratch and fresh every day. They serve the Roma Tomato Basil every day, and offer a ton of other amazing selections….She Crab, Baked Potato, Vegetable Chili, Roasted Butternut Squash, Artichoke & Parmesan, Chicken Pot Pie, Tuscan White Bean….the list goes on!

It depends on what soup you are getting. Every place has different soups that they’re good at, almost no place is an expert at multiple kind of soup. I’ve tried soup at nearly every restaurant I’ve been to before and I have some odd observations. My two favorite soups are french onion and baked potato. They are the best at two different places. Panera Bread has the BEST baked potato soup in the world, but it is far better if you get it in the bread bowl. Now as for the french onion soup, it is best at an odd restaurant. It is the best at Applebee’s, or it used to be. Now they have added extra cheese on top, but you can ask for it without the extra cheese and it is the same old, delicious bowl of soup! Kind of odd, I know, but VERY, VERY good!
