1) L’Thai Organic Cuisine

Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “L’Thai’s tom-kha is a silken bowl of sweet-yet-sour soup layered with the flavors of broth and coconut milk and peppered with bright cilantro, all highlighted by unimaginably fresh tofu. One sip, and you won’t need Calgon to take you away.”

I’m gonna break this down by genre –

Vietnamese – Love me some Pho#1 on Buford Hwy

Mexican – Chicken & Rice Soup @ Sangria’s Mexican Cafe in Tucker

American – Souper Jenny – hands down. great grilled cheese too.

Chinese – Many about equal in this category but dragon express in brookhaven for hot and sour, Garden Inn in Lilburn for Sizzling Rice and Hunan Inn in Doraville for Egg Drop

Brunswick Stew get’s it’s own category – There are many good ones out there but I’m gonna give the lifetime achievement award to The Old Hickory House in Northlake.

This is the final word on soup.

Rasa Sayan for, “Tom Yum” soup. Also in Roswell, a relative newcomer…the, “Aligator, Shrimp and Crawfish” soup at Da Cajun Kitchen.

Since I’m not the first to toss out a stew….my vote goes to the Brunswick at Pig n Chick

I haven’t tried these other places, but when I worked over near Roswell Rd, my favorite was Whole Foods’ seafod gumbo and a piece of cornbread to crumble in…hmmmm! We need a Whole Foods in the Snellville/Loganville area.

I gotta agree with the various voices chiming in for pho. Nothing like a VAT of hot broth with fresh veggies, fragrant herbs and slurpy noodles. A bite of heat from fresh chilis or a variety of chili sauces hits you to the top of your head. Best of all, a top note of lime to accent the fresh flavors.

I miss the long gone pho hoa binh on Cheshire. A guy walking past your table with half a pig over his shoulder just added ambience.

I think the best soup in town, believe it or not, is the Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscana! This soup is light, with potatoes, sausage, and herbs! I love it! You can’t beat the price when you combine it with their salad for a winter meal!

Surin of Thailand in the highlands. Particularly their hot and sour…so much flavor! It’s not bland, and I find that I get a bland bowl of soup at so many places. Nothing wrong with a little salt, and this soup has it all.

LOVE the chicken noodle soup at Never Enough Thyme off McGinnis in Alpharetta. Taxco’s off Roswell Rd. is really good, if you want Mexican flavors. In a hurry – I do like Max & Erma’s (Perimeter) chicken tortilla soup, as well as McAlister’s tortilla soup. Also love baked potato soup from La Madeline…
