Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “L’Thai’s tom-kha is a silken bowl of sweet-yet-sour soup layered with the flavors of broth and coconut milk and peppered with bright cilantro, all highlighted by unimaginably fresh tofu. One sip, and you won’t need Calgon to take you away.”

Broad Street Cafe, located downtown in the Fairlie Poplar district, has fantastic soups. My favorite is the heavenly creamy mushroom with brie, followed closely by the roasted red pepper and seafood varieties. (There are, I believe, about six choices total.) Their homemade crab cake sandwich makes a great accompaniment.
Chili probably doesn’t count in a soup blog, but if it did, I’d also recommend the hearty vegan chili at Rainbow Natural Foods (N. Decatur & Clairemont).

The Tom Yum (hot & sour) at the Thai Restaurant of Norcross on Norcross Tucker Rd is the best Tom Yum soup that I’ve found in Atlanta. I like it with shrimp and extra heat.

The soups served in Murphy’s in Virginia Highland are so good it’s difficult to single out just one. Inventive and consistently good. Just behind Murphy’s but not far is Alons. A smaller repertory but vegetable based soups. i.e., tomato basil, are standouts.

Why not try the Chicken Noodle Soup at Carrabbas in Morrow. It’s absolutely off the change with plenty of chicken, vegetables and noodles that will fill you up and asking for a take-out order when leaving. Try it and I know you will be coming back for more.

The chicken pho at Dua Vietnamese Noodle Soup on Broad St downtown is addictive, and absoloutely to die for! I never experienced Vietnamese food before this. Also, to give props to my Jamaican origins, Eat Right Jamaican restaurant in Decatur has the best cow foot soup and Royal Caribbean Bakery and restaurant has the best red peas soup.

The Crab Soup at Baan Thai in Conyers is the best I have ever had. As for Pho, go to Pho Huang Long off Pat Mell Road in Marietta. Marietta diner has awesome seafood bisque, and Cherokee Cattle Co has to die for Steak soup, as well as Potato Soup.

The Chicken Tortilla Soup at the ESPN zone was great until they closed:( MY college days had me eating a jerked chicken and rice soup called the Bob Marley soup at a small bar and grill in Millidgeville, Buffingtons. The soup was the best!!!! For brunswick stew, have to give it to Fresh Air BBQ in Macon and Jackson.

The best chicken soup that I have tasted outside of a private home has got to be the soup served by La Parilla in Flowery Branch/Oakwood, Ga. Shredded chicken, rice, and tortilla strips are seasoned just right and served with slices of lime and avocado on the side. Yummy!
