Aurora and Octane tie for the top spot in my book. Cool Beans in Marietta is very close. If you dig cold coffee drinks, then it’s Cool Beans and Aurora.

Tazza on Northside Dr. had great coffee, and it’s a shame they went out of business. Jittery Joe’s is also excellent, but I’ve generally considered them more an Athens establishment.

I know this is very uncool and SO not hip – but I love Starbucks coffee. God help me, I do. Howell Mill Rd. location has the best baristas, very efficient and genuinely nice people.

Cakes by CoCo are the best i have ever tasted. The varitiy of cakes that they offer are simply amazing. I can still be on my diet and eat a smaller piece with is called their “chuncks”. OMG Cakes by CoCo is truly a St. Louis secret that Alt is blessed to have.

Parkgrounds in Atl off Flat Shoals has some really great coffee, and lots of cool contraptions to brew it in, plus I can bring my pooch with me!
Octane is great also, go there when I am on that side of town, but dont like to hang out there as much the music is way to hipster for me.
Dunkin Donuts when I am on the road, and not sure where I can get Counter Culture Beans.

Anything from Columbia. Hand picked, of course.
I’ve only seen one reference to Java Jive, is it still open? Haven’t been there in years but they used to have great coffee. Also gotta give it to the Dekalb Farmers Market for the Jamaican Blue Mountain. Expensive, but darn well worth it (a free cup to anyone that can tell me where that line came from). Also, if I hear another midyankeewesternnortherneasternsoutherncalifornian implant refer to the Virginia-Highland neighborhood as “the Highlands” again I’m gonna puke!

I couldn’t vote on any of them because Land of a Thousand Hills has the best variety of coffees and they make it possible for people (mostly women) in Rwanda to start their own businesses with microfinance loans. They are located in Roswell, off the square. http://www.landof1000hills.com

Element Coffee Company in Crabapple/Alpharetta has really good latte’s and capuccino’s. The flavor is so deep and strong. A place you would find in Berlin or New York. Unbelievable that people still go to Starbucks. Barristas are cool too. Worth a detour. The other cool place is Octane, a big city place – but watch out for the people on their laptops … connected and yet disconnected …

If I can’t have Cuban coffee in Miami or Kona coffee in Hawaii then I just make Maxwell House or Floger’s at home. If I can’t have Cuban, Kona, or my home brew then I like plain old Dunkin Donuts.

Know all the snobs will immediately yelp, but Starbucks is the best. I’ve gone to every place on this site and always hope for better coffee, but haven’t found it. I know Starbucks isn’t cool though…..

My cozy kitchen. Fresh, French-pressed coffee. A French Roast blend with a teaspoon of brown sugar and whole, organic milk. A great way for Frenchie to start the morning. In the fall, I imbibe dressed in Nick and Nora flannels, warm socks, with a fluffy, purring cat resting in my lap.

Anything by Batdorf & Bronson (Dancing Goats, Aurora) is my first, second and third choice. I worked for Starb*cks in the ’90s and watched them discard all their quality standards one by one in the name of volume, volume, volume. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

And funny as in sounds, QT actually does have some decent coffee, their procedures are sound (mostly) and with the volume they serve, it’s not likely to have been sitting very long. I’ll stop there if I’m in a hurry.

I just don’t get the love of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. I am not a hater of their coffee, but find the roast extremely light. I just look for a bit more flavor or robust roast. It could be becuase I drink mine straight up black, so I need a bit more than their basic coffee has. I added I shot of espresso once, and that helped, but it is still very one dimensional.

If you really want good original coffee, you must check out”Gathering Grounds” on Hosea Williams Blvd. in the heart of the Kirkwood Community. it gives Dancing Goats and Dunkin Donuts a run for the money.
