OUR PICKS
We say, “With a new location just opened in Emory Village, the east side of Atlanta will get a taste of the beautifully brewed cups and rare, sustainably-sourced beans that have made this spot a Westside favorite.”

Batdorf and Bronson has the best coffee around. You can get it at a variety of places including their coffee shop in Decatur, Dancing Goat, Ria’s Bluebird and Start Provisions.

Southern Aroma Coffee Roasters have some of the best coffee I’ve ever tasted. I had there coffee at the Aluvian Hotel’s Reataurant and I’ve been hooked ever since. I was surprised to find out on their website http://www.southernaromacoffee.com that they started in Atl before locating to MS. They are usually found in high end places (like The Aluvian) but I wish they would open a local retail coffee shop. This stuff is special!!

Dancing Goats is good…but for a really good cup, try Hip Hop Hogs…if a darker blend is more to your liking, then try Tango Lemur……for a latte….it has to be Cha Cha Donkey.

Living in Decatur, I have to say Dancing Goats, even though I’ve only been once (great parking, too, although you can’t drink the concrete). Duck’s Donuts are a nice extra. Urban Griounds in Avondale Estates would be second. I’ve done my share of Starbuck’s and QT because I’m a java junkie and they’re just too convienent. Gotta give SF Coffee a big thumbs down–went for a mocha (ok, not exactly espresso) and was told that all sizes have the same number of shots–one. Huh? Too bad because there’s one next to one of my favorite pet stoes–Highland Pet Supply. I really think DeKalb Farmer’s has the best beans.

Jittery Joe’s is the best, by far.
McDonald’s does have good coffee for a fast-food chain.
Starbucks is disgusting. How did it even get popular to begin with?

Octane Coffee (Westside & Emory) hands down! For so many reasons! Their brewed coffee (french press and chemex) and espresso tastes and looks amazing! Not only do they use a great roaster–Counter Culture–they also understand each coffee they brew and are consistent and super passionate about what they do. They also make their own caramel, chocolate, and vanilla sauce in house. Yum and no artificial flavors! They are also great at building community and providing a relaxed atmosphere, which to me, is just as important to the enjoyment of my morning cup.

Miss the coffeehouses in ATL (believe it or not, DC is just catching up in terms of non-Starbucks cafes). My votes go for:
Inman Perk (miss the old location with an actual patio, though)
Land of a Thousand Hills (even without the direct-trade angle some of the best coffee available)
Dr. Bombay’s in Candler Park (cool place even if the staff drama can be a bit…volatile)
But honestly, for pure great coffee, please do yourselves a favor and go to Athens. 1000 Faces Roasters has officially slapped to the floor Batdorf, Counter Culture and Jittery Joe’s. Go to 2 Cups (nevermind the clientele) and order a French press immediately.
Also, if you said Starbucks or QT, I invite you to promptly become An Hero. (look it up.) You are like people who troll beer discussions and post “LOL WUT I LIEK CORONA” because it’s never occurred to you that beer should be palatable without putting fruit in it.

If you’re traveling outside Atlanta there is a beautiful quaint Coffee Shop in Greenville Ga. which is between Newnan and Warm Springs. The name is Foxxden Coffee Cafe and is right on the downtown square.

I’ve had good coffee at some restaurants. Good, solid tasting, smooth and strong coffee with no bitterness. Most recent was at Atlanta Fish Market. Wonder where restaurants get their beans and how they brew it. I could have sat there and had cup after cup.

Mighty Joe in Tucker, locally owned and operated) in shopping center on Hugh Howell! Nothing to compare in the area, certainly not StarBurps (which, typical of its apparently predatory biz practices, moved in the neighborhood AFTER the litttle guy took the risk and demonstrated viability.) Great, fresh coffee and neighborly, family-friendly environment and always cheerful hostess/manager to boot! As a Boston-bred guy, I understand the Dunkin Donuts votes but c’mon, it’s pretty good but not up there with the “best” candidates.

My wife already commented, but my #1 favorite is the same as hers – Dancing Goats (or anywhere that brews that blend). I also love Octane and Aurora.
A good option many people dont know about is Get Coffee in Chamblee. I use that MARTA station on occasion and the coffee is very good, priced well and the people are very friendly.
For chains, Dunkin Donuts is superb. Not as much variety in the flavor but really, really good coffee.
If we don’t have Batendorf beans, we will brew with DD beans at home and it is great.

All these mentions of QT made me want to try it since I never have. I had the Mighty Mocha and it was delicious! I then thought I’d give RaceTrac a try and tried their similar mocha drink and it was good, too! Good price as well! I admit, too–that I’ve never liked just straight black coffee. Even at work I’ll sometimes mix coffee and hot chocolate for a makeshift mocha..hey that’s a good name–Makeshift Mocha!

Get Coffee in Chamblee is our favorite. The beans are roasted down the street and the best espresso in town. And the owner and staff are great too!
