You say, “I sound like such a sell out… But seriously, I love Dunkin Donuts, they are the best. Their regular blend … It’s like utopia in a cup.”
2) Starbucks
OUR PICKS
We say, “With a new location just opened in Emory Village, the east side of Atlanta will get a taste of the beautifully brewed cups and rare, sustainably-sourced beans that have made this spot a Westside favorite.”

A couple of the javavino barristas will include an extra heaping helping of attitude on the side for free.
That’s why I no longer get my joe there.

I haven’t had it yet b/c I’ve never travelled outside the perimeter, but I hear Land of a Thousand Hills brews a hell of a cup and is dedicated to improving the lives of the people of Rwanda. You can’t beat that. The shop itself is supposed to be awesome. Again, I haven’t been- just telling y’all what I’ve heard. I like SF Coffee’s whaler’s blend. I’ve never had a bad cup at Inman Perk. And whoevers brewing Counter Culture! Now that I think of it, there’s some great coffee in Atlanta, ya dig?

Starbucks. Their coffee is amazing*
*disclaimer- I am joking. Starbucks sucks. They over-roast their beans and their coffee is terrible. Anyone who buys coffee or anything else from Starbucks should hit themselves in the face with a frying pan.

Some personal faves on the east side of the city:
Joe’s Coffee in East Atlanta – Best baristas, very cool setting
Perk in Glenwood Park – Easily most peaceful coffee shop in Atlanta to read/study
Inman Perk Coffee on Highland Ave – great coffee, location
Parkgrounds in East Atlanta – Great coffee/treats w/ a bonus of a dog park to let fido play

I can’t function till I’ve had a large “D-cafe,no sugar and 4 creamers” from where else but Mickey D’s. This is the best coffee I’ve ever tasted. I’ve even gotten up as late as 10:00pm to go and get a cup of this coffee. It taste so good if there is any left I nuke in the microwave the next morning and it’ll still taste just as good.

Dancing Goats in Decatur is by far the best.
I don’t live nearby, so for my usual coffee fix, the best near my home (Roswell) is Dunkin Donuts.
Land of a Thousand Hills is also nice, but quality varies by who is working and the location is good for weekends only because of the HWY 9 traffic. If you go here, plan to stay and enjoy your own french press in house.

I miss Joe Muggs, in the old Boomershine Pontiac building (where Orvis is now on Peachtree Road near Piedmont). They were the only place in town that actually served J. Martinez coffee.
J. Martinez, which is sold at Alon’s and Whole Foods by the pound, is the best. Second is Batdorf & Bronson, which is also sold at Alon’s and Star Provisions (”Dancing Goats” is their signature blend, hence the name of the coffee shops).
Back in 1996, my entire office was hooked on Dancing Goats, that we bought by the pound at the coffee shop in the walkway connecting the IBM Building to the parking deck. One day we came back from a big group lunch, and everyone was talking about how they “sure could go for some Dancing Goats.” The CFO was in the elevator with us and thought we were talking about some sort of illegal drugs!

A good cup of coffee does not have to come from an overpriced coffee shop. What’s good to me is coffee from Quik Trip; and if it’s any better anywhere else–it must be illegal.

Are we rating brews or beans?
If we’re rating brews:
1. Caribou Coffee at Monroe and Piedmont Ave.
2. Starbucks at Ansley Mall
If we’re rating Beans:
1. DeKalb Farmers Market – almost anything in their stock
2. Whole Foods – Mexican Blend
3. Central Market (Texas Chain) – Sumatran Mandehling (low-acidity magnificence)

If you’re serious about coffee J. Martinez is as good as it gets. They are local supply all of the Pano & Paul’s restaurants and you can buy whole beans at The Corner Cafe. Their coffee is the antithesis of Charbucks.
