Enter your comments here Legals Seafood is the best. Growing up in Massachusetts spoils you with wonderful choices from the ocean. Here in Atlanta, you can only get clams with bellies at Legals, and the steamed little necks with a 2 lb. steamed sweet Lobster, is heaven. It reminds me of home.

Pappadueax’s is by far the best seafood joint in the A. Yeah so what its a franchise before you MOM & POP lovers come in here bashing. But really food does suck in Atlanta. I don’t care for SIX FEET under because they do not season the food. Not heavy seasoning but please add flavor to the cuisine.

An honorable mention also goes out to BAY BREEZE on Veteran’s Memorial in Mableton. Great!! Its more of country fried seafood.

The best place here compared to N.O. cajun style seafood here is Gumbeaux in Douglasville, the wait maybe long but MAN……..the wait is so worth it and it’s not expensive. Depeaux located in downtown Decatur is good also. They have a drink there called hurricane and it goes from level 1 to 5, it’s really go.

My dad makes Shrimp-B-Q that is glorious. His vinegar based Cajun Seafood Sauce just compliments the hours spent preparing the meat and shrimp to perfection. Now while technically his dish is ‘Shrimp-B-Q’, he likes to call it ‘Butt-down-B-Q’. Reason being is that once you eat some of it, you’ll sit your butt down and you ain’t movin the rest of the afternoon.

Legal Seafood is not all that great. Skipjacks in Boston beats Legal Seafood any day (and the chowder is the best I’ve had anywhere in years). I miss the old Apple Grove Inn in Medina, NY – best fish fry (if anyone remembers them!) anywhere. People came from miles around on Friday nights. Here in Atlanta, sadly I haven’t really found a good seafood – Atlanta Seafood is probably the best, but it’s not like being up in MA, NY, RI, etc.

C&S Seafood on Northside Pkwy at the Chattahoochee near Vinings is expensive but worth it. It has the feel of a small NYC seafood restaurant, similar to what you would find in the heart of Manhattan – excellent, fresh fish.

Kyma is excellent as well. The seafood at Oceannaire is good, but the restaurant itself is too cold, too cavernous and too expensive. And the patrons are definitely there to see and be seen – more interested in impressing themselves rather than caring about the food.

To me Legal Seafood is one step above Red Lobster. Of the chain restaurants McCormick & Schmidts is much better. For stand alone business where you would take the family, the Atlanta Fish Market is the best. For the great evening out Kyma’s is the place to go. If I had to only pick one, it would be the Atlanta Fish Market. And, [name deleted], if the food sucks in Atlanta, why don’t you leave. For the best cajun seafood, there’s a little restaurant in a strip mall/ gas station near Gwinnett Place Mall. Atlantic Seafood Company has never let us down, the food is always top notch and the service is outstanding. The only complaint is that the main dining room is a little loud, but we just request a table off to the side so we can hear each other. McKinnon’s Louisiane has been the most reliable seafood restaurant in the city since the 70’s – hands down. If you are interested in fresh seafood that is perfectly prepared – this is the place to go.

Although not primarily a “fish house”, Feast in Decatur always features seafood on its menu and every time I ordered the special of the day, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned and just wonderful. I agree with Elle. I’m from Atlanta and have been dying for a top-notch seafood spot – LEGAL SEAFOOD is it! Their lump crab cakes are the best I’ve ever had – hardly no breadcrumbs. They also have a chef’s woodfire grill entree with 3 types of grilled fish, grilled scallops and shrimp that is the bomb! I never like scallops before eating there.

For the best seafood here in the ATK, go to your nearest Super H Mart, buy any of their fish, and cook it at home. Their fish is the best. I’m by no means a professional chef, but when I start with high quality fresh fish I get better results than almost any local restaurant!

Filet-of-Fish, So true and so funny! My vote is for chili crab at Straits, Atlantic Seafood for fresh fish, Pappadeux for sometimes cheap and tasty oysters on the half-shell. Legal Seafood is a poor chain in my opinion. Have eaten there several times in Boston and am never impressed. Won’t be going there in Atlanta.

Southside Seafood Company on Forest Parkway in Morrow, GA is absolutely fabulous. They have fresh fish they will cook for you right there. Pappadueax’s and Sea Breeze in Douglasville did not really impress me although I know many love them because you get large portions. Great fish fry takes a variety of good fresh fish and fresh oil to fry it in. Also for grilled or baked fish you need good recipes. Not being from Atlanta or the southeast I find the food is an acquired taste. But if you are look carefully there are great places to eat.

I’m an Atlanta native who loves this city dearly. I’ve been to Boston, New York, and New Orleans many times, and I’ve lived in Florida. Sadly, no seafood restaurant here comes anywhere close to what you can get in the cities mentioned and in FLA. Your best bet is to go to Harry’s/Whole Foods, get what’s fresh, and cook it at home.

McCormick & Schmidt’s has very good seafood, but like all places that make and sell this delicious food, this food has got to a point where a second mortgage is needed just to go out to dinner. Forget about the Captain D’s, Long John Silvers, and the other fast food joints who sell seafood because this is the “bottom of the barrel” seafood which the regular restaurants wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.

The best seafood is on the coastlines of any state that has an ocean along side of it.

H market on ga 85 in riverdale has some of the freshest seafood that i have ever had. You can buy whole fish and have them cut it to your discretion and they also have fresh fish that you can pick out and they will kill it and cut it for you. They have any and every type of seafood that you would ever imagine, from carp to conch. Try it they also have any and every type of oriental vegetable that you would want.

@Angela – yes, nothing can beat good old Louisiana seafood. I was distraught when I ate some boiled crawfish at Pappadeaux. No Zatarin’s crab boil! I’d never heard of Old Bay until I moved here and I’m still biased against using it for boiling seafood. LOL!

I will say that I enjoy Copeland’s and Pappadeaux…Copeland’s for many entrees not just seafood and Pappadeaux for great seafood even when you have to wait an hour just to get a table.

@LS, both places that you listed are great..I live in Douglasville and have yet to try Gumbeaux..That’s because my nephew had his wedding reception at there other location and the food was pretty bad..Of course that location is now closed, so it may have just been there..

I know this place isn’t in GA, but if you live on the west side, it’s well worth the drive..Butler’s Mill in Ala..It’s an all you can eat seafood buffet…They are only open on Fri. Sat and Sun. and you have to get there early..

BLUE WILLOW INN! I know that the AJC has had it ranked #1 as far as ’southern style buffets’ in Georgia before, but on Friday and Saturday nights it is all you can eat seafood in addition to the other great food. My wife LIVES for the (on average) once a month trip to get down on the crab legs! I never even like crab legs myself until I tried them there- they’re great, to the point there really is no need for the butter. If that is your SPECIFIC favorite seafood dish, it’s worth the drive.

The best my hubby & I have found up here in the Gainesville area is Atlanta Hwy. Seafood Market & Cafe in Gainesville, GA. Grouper, red snapper, shrimp, oysters, and all things seafood. Small portions always look like not quite enough, but end up being just the right amt. I do think the side items should increase in portion size some. Kyma by far has the best seafood in the city. The fish is fresh when you walk in and flown in daily. You get to pick the way it is prepared and they bring it to your table whole and cut it right there. Havent found anything else that even comes close. It is expensive but well worth the money. When I just want some good fish without the flair of Kyma I usually go to Atlanta Fish Market. I like Pappaduex, but it was more for the way the dishes were prepped moreso than just the fish itself. Atlanta Fish and Chequers din’t impress me. Six Feet Under Fell Off…….Legal Seafood was Ok, I make better grilled salmnon, fried snapper and stuffed flounder than most of these places.

People saying folks should leave Atlanta are copping out. Why shouldn’t we bring higher standards to Atlanta so that you guys can actually experience Great seafood instead of just o.k overpriced, not really as fresh as advertised fish? I mean I’ve been to the Northeast for GREAT fresh seafood, NewOrleans(won’t even discuss how delish) and the West Coast for fresh seafood. Atlanta being landlocked is the main reason you will never find that quality out here no matter how much you are charged.

Also, Boudreaux’s Cajun Kitchen in Duluth is very good. If that doesn’t work, I make a mean seafood gumbo, crawfish etouffee or jambalaya. I’ll even through in some boudin if you ask nice.

I’ve lived here 3 years and haven’t found one restaurant even close to an average place in Boston. Most of the seafood here is frozen and brought in on trucks, instead of fresh and it tastes very average. Boston’s got tons of places better than these “high rated” atlanta places. I may move back soon–too many rednecks down here.

I love Atlanta Fish Market, the menu is really simple and really relies on the freshest fish, the sushi menu is a hidden gem for sure, and I love that they have a market in the back that you can buy fish from to make your own seafood dishes at home. The guys behind the counter can always recommend what’s best!
