Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “Take me to Paris, and what do I want? Well, besides shoes? A ham, butter and cheese sandwich on a baquette, bought from a street vender. I can get a similance of this Francophile sammie at Star Provisions, with Parm and prosciutto and butter on one of the provender’s Parisian-style baquettes.”

Hey Michelle My Haldol prescription ran out, can I borrow a few of yours. Subs are subs, sandwiches are something different. you must like Publix “subs”.

KK, Sub is short for “submarine sandwich”.
Sandwich definition: 2 or more pieces of bread with a filling.
A sub is a sandwich, unless it’s underwater with a periscope.

Seriously, stop putting Shane’s Rib Shack’s sorry excuse for a sandwich on here. I don’t know how it tasted before franchising, but I hope it was better. KC Pit, Lost Mtn BBQ1, and Pig n’ Chik leave no room for crap like that.

My list for sandwiches only (no subs, phillies, or burgers):
1. Eatzi’s (R.I.P.) – Roasted Chicken w/ roasted carrots, lettuce, tomato, etc.
2. Goldberg’s chicken salad sandwich w/ extra mayo on the bread
3. Jason’s Deli (anything there)
4. Portobello Mushroom sandwich at Canoe

Baldino’s is a great sandwich. I’ve been eating them since 1982 when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg. My favourite is the All-American. Another great, and I mean great sandwich is the Irish Po’Boy at Johnnie McCracken’s Irish pub on the Marietta square. Corned beef (featured by Alton Brown on a Food Network special) butter, slaw, mustard, lettuce and tomato with Irish cheddar cheese. This sandwich is worth a drive from anywhere in the Atlanta area.

Jimmy John’s??? That is the blandest place in the world. Awful.
The Yankee at Jason’s Deli is fantastic — so much corned beef and pastrami.
The New Yorker Deli on Pharr is the best local, though. And I’m from Philadelphia, so I know. Right, Boost? Mmmm Wawa…

Star Provisions’ shrimp po boy is by far the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Their falafel is also quite good . . . every once in a while they have a scallop po boy that is as good as the shrimp . . . but you can always count on the shrimp being there. They use the freshest ingredients possible, bake their own bread, and know how to slap a sandwich together! Alon’s is also fantastic, but my personal fave is SP.

Muss & Turner’s in Smyrna/Vinings off Atlanta Rd. has about a dozen sandwiches that are crazy good, not to mention daily specials. Most are made with meats and other products that are cooked, prepared and processed in house. The bread is awesome. Just thinking about it makes me want to run over and get a Lamburger with sheep’s milk cheese on a soft wheat kaiser roll with a big slice of heirloom tomato on it. Muss’s free-range turkey breast that he cured himself and smoked in a giant kamado smoker vs. Publix’s limp, bleached out rubbery turkey “product”? No comparison.

LOL@ morons who mentioned any chain restaurant. No wonder the sports world thinks Atlanta fans have no heart. You can’t even generate enough passion to name a place unique to Atlanta? Publix subs are awesome — I’m eating a tarragon chix salad on wheat — but to say that’s where you will find Atlanta’s best sandwiches???? So the sandwiches in Atlanta are no better than the ones in any podunk little town with a Publix/Subway/Firehouse/McRib (ok that one was funny)/etc???? That’s just stupid.
