Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “Take me to Paris, and what do I want? Well, besides shoes? A ham, butter and cheese sandwich on a baquette, bought from a street vender. I can get a similance of this Francophile sammie at Star Provisions, with Parm and prosciutto and butter on one of the provender’s Parisian-style baquettes.”

Seriously…….anyone who puts Publix or a chain restaurant on this list has never had a good sandwich! This is not opinion, it is fact! Rednecks need to venture out more…..!

Clark, would you mind providing the proper documentation for the “fact” that you referenced in your needlessly insulting post? The fact of the matter is that taste is purely subjective and there is no criteria that sets forth any standard when it comes to what an individual likes or dislikes.

There isn’t a good local sandwich around me. So Publix with Boar’s Head on 5 grain sourdough &. Jersey Mikes are the best nearby.

The best was Harold’s in downtown ATL (see if anyone remembers)! Also Havana Sandwich Shop (RIP).
Now, try Gruby’s Delicatessen for NYC-style sandwiches and La Fonda Latina (Roswell Road) for a terrific Cuban sandwich!

Ditto the selections at Fancy Pantry. They make everything from scratch. Even cook their own deli meat. Also, excellent entree salads and they have like 15 different choices for side items to go with your sandwich.

I get a pretty good kick from the fact that Pulix makes such a good sub and Kroger makes such a TERRIBLE sub. I even suggested to Kroger that they could just go buy a sub at Publix and analyze and copy it, because for sure they do not have a clue. Evidence shows that they didn’t try that.

Yup..I go for Publix just about once a week. Their Italian Sub is sooo good. Add some lettuce, some salt and pepper, some olive oil and a bit of red vinegar, and its a really really good sub. And truly surprising for me was Subway’s veggie on wheat. I got every vegetable along with peppers. Yum! But nothing tops the sandwiches I make at home. All supplies from Publix: I take sourdough bread (sandwiched sliced..from publix bakery) mayo, roast beef, and buttercase cheese. I then put it all on the sourdough and pan fry it as you would a grilled cheese. Until the cheese is melted and the beef is hot all the way through. Yum, Yum and Yum.
