Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman says, “Take me to Paris, and what do I want? Well, besides shoes? A ham, butter and cheese sandwich on a baquette, bought from a street vender. I can get a similance of this Francophile sammie at Star Provisions, with Parm and prosciutto and butter on one of the provender’s Parisian-style baquettes.”

Bandido Jefe…I’d like to try your restaurant. What’s the name and what’s the specialty I should be sure to order?
Can anyone recommend the best place to get a good Muffaletta sandwich? My favorite used to be the tiny French Quarter off Ashford Dunwoody near Chamblee but it closed couple years ago.

They sell pastrami on rye at the Carnegie Deli in New York City. That is a sandwich, my friends. Anything short of that is a travesty. We need restauranteurs to step up and copy the food served at the Carnegie Deli in New York City.
If not, Atlanta Cuisine is finished.

Henri’s pimento cheese on french roll. Turkey Reuban at New Yorker on Pharr. And yes, a Publix sub. I’ve got a girl who lives in Venice Beach, CA, she’s a big foodie and locavore, etc etc. and she has to have a Publix sub as soon as she gets off the plane. So Martin, take your ‘tude and shove it, ya dig?

CC, I agree with you on Happy Herman’s. Living right near there, I was sorry to see it go. I spoke to the owner a few months before closing and he said the traffic bottleneck at Lindbergh and Cheshire Bridge was killing him as well as the economy. When will they fix that intersection? Never! In Buckhead, I like NY Deli on Pharr and the Corner Bakery, also ATL Bread. Downtown, it’s Reuben’s Deli or Dirienzo’s Deli in Sweet Auburn Curb Mkt.

STAR PROVISIONS-Shrimp Poboy is what dreams are made of…at $10.00 and worth every penny.
IGrouchy’s does a nice Turkey Club
PUBLIX is the closest you get to a traditional sub(I was born and raised in Philly and NJ, sorry Jersey Mikes,Blimpies and that other place, but the Bread is Key)
I like a good Bahn Mi as well, check Buford Highway for some Vietnamese spots, u can usually get 5 for 10 bucks
Atlanta Bread Company makes a better than decent Chicken Salad(all meat not soupy with mayonaise) and I order it on a baguette
Not a professional, just a kid who grew up in the East Coast around Jewish Deli’s and Italian Bakeries and have been all over the world.
