Don’t laugh, but I like the Varsity’s heavy dog – has a huge bunch of chili, a weeney, and a bun. You have to cut it in half before eating.

I’ve lived in Atlanta my entire life, and I’ve been to almost everything suggested here.
Hands down, best sandwich and best price is Publix!

Shane’s BBQ? I have had better BBQ in the freezer section of Kroger. Atlanta is loaded with great BBQ places and you eat at a chain? Sonny’s is WAY better than Shanes and I give Sonny’s a 5 out of ten. While, I like Publix sandwiches. I name 20 places better. Hoboken Bread and Bagel Company has the best sandwiches in GA. Johnny McCrackens in Marietta Sq has very good sandwiches as well.

Melton’s App and Tap on Scott Boulevard, we have never had anything bad there, the service is top notch. I had the Big Turkey club and my husband had the Tuna Melt and both were awesome! They also have waffle cut fries and a dipping sauce with blue cheese and it is definately worth the trip, FRESH all the way!

To have the best sandwich you have to go right OTP to Muss and Turner’s. Other places are good only of you like pre-packaged crap. I like a place that has a smoker out in front smoking turkey that is gonna be in my sandwich. Get yo boo-tay to Smyrna and enjoy. Yo’ momma said so.

Another nod for Alon’s bakery in VA Highlands. Fresh baked bread, lots of quality deli meat and cheese, their homemade spreads, all add up to a big bite of goodness. Add one of their two bite pecan chocolate chip cookies and take a trip to Tastyville.

To New Yorkers,

First of all, while I agree the best sandwich I have ever had was at Katz Deli (I go to NY every year for the US Open). However, we are sick and tried of hearing of how great NY city is and how everything is better in NY. There are great sandwich places around here in Atlanta. If NY is go great. Please go back. I will start taking up money for your plane ticket. On every blog, we have to hear about either a) how great NY food is OR b) how great of sports fans you are. Give a rest you arrogent j*rks.

all of you are hilarious this one is the best and that one is the best.. first of all who are you and what culinary background you all have to be judge of what best is.
you all should start saying you favorite is …, i work in food business since more than 20 years.
and most of people out there have no taste period. they can’t recognize this or that.
and remove constantly items from sandwiches, or on the side.

what is the point of going to a place for their great food if you remove all the ingredients that make that food combination great. Chefs sit down and actually invent and think their menus, for morons who will remove half of it.
come on people evolve and stop being spoiled rotten kids when it comes to food….
time to spread the buzz…
food is an art so respect the artists chefs
when you buy a painting, you don’t ask the artist to remove some red or blue
or put the yellow on the side.
i hope all the chefs in Atlanta will read this …
we are sick of you people.. making your own food combination at our tables
stay home and cook for your self in that case

The best sandwich place in Atlanta is gone. The best was far and away Sops on Ellis in downtown Atlanta on Ellis street. Other than that I would have to say The Vortex. (Hamburgers are sandwiches too)

I’ve loved pretty much every sandwich I’ve tried at Noon Midtown, and two favorites are the AMAZING eggplant sandwich (and I’m not a vegetarian) and the uniquely delicious meatloaf sandwich (and I don’t like meatloaf). And to make it even better, the chocolate chip cookies are completely perfect.

I agree that Alon’s, Sawicki’s and Star Provisions are all excellent but I can’t believe Duck’s Cosmic Kitchen in Decatur is getting ignored. They have a fantastic pot roast sandwich and a great warm prosciutto sandwich with fig jam. They also make the best baked (not fried) sugar cinnamon doughnuts!
