THE best cupcakes in Atlanta are from a small, private baker, Cheezecakes, Gourmet Cupcakes with a Smile Inside. The smile inside is so worth it. They aren’t like these typical sugar overload cupcakes with the plain old cake with doctored icing on top all pretty. These are OMG good! I’ve tried Cheezecakes gourmet cupcakes before and they truly are gourmet. You can only eat one in a sitting; they are that rich and filling. Chocolate is great, but the lemon ones with the warm, semi-soft centers are unbelievably good!! I really don’t think anyone else can do desserts better!! Definitely deserves a try if you haven’t already.

I’ve tried Cheezecakes Gourmet Cupcakes with a Smile and they are unbelievably delicious! They are very rich and flavorful with a crisp outside and an extremely moist inside. You can only eat one at a time; however, your taste buds will defintely crave another! A must try for the cupcake lover.

Buttoncakes Bakery on Decatur– they’re incredible. Lots of flavors, and real buttercream icing. The coconut (Snowball) ones are so good they made my eyes roll back in my head, and the humming bird mini’s are so good you could scarf down a half dozen without pausing for breath! (Don’t ask me how I know this…)

You MUST try the cupcakes from Star Provisions, off of Howell Mill! The fig cupcakes are my favorite! They aren’t too sweet and even have a large piece of fig at the bottom.

The best Cupcakes in Metro Atlanta are at Incredible Southern Poundcakes in Stockbridge. Yes they do more than pound cakes. They simply are the best. They bake pound cake cupcakes like no other. They also offer traditional cupcakes as well. They have over 20 different flavors and frostings to chose from. My family loves them all. Always fresh and the taste and presentation is second to none. They bake the famous Rich’s Coconut Cake, something many of us had thought had gone away. I think their version is even better than I remember growing up as a kid in Atlanta.
Everyone in Stockbridge and South of the Airport knows where to go to get the best baked goodies, Incredible Southern Poundcakes. And they ship all over the country. I think they are opening another store in October at Old Towne Morrow at Southlake. They must be doing something right if they are opening another location in this economy. It is love at first bite….She has a way of making you like every flavor. I promise you she is guaranteed to be the best. Sassy Girl has no limits. I would suggest that you order the assortment of cupcakes then you can have all of your favorites for the office meeting.

Cafe Aroma in Lawrenceville! The cupcakes are made fresh. They are huge, so one is a major diet killer, but WTH! These cupcakes lean more toward the frosting lovers out there — rich, buttercream frosting (the chocolate is to die for). They have several choices: Vanilla Buttercream, Chocolate Buttercream, Red Velvet, Orange Creamsicle, German Chocolate, Lemon Raspberry, and others. They are huge and cost only 2.25 per cupcake. Of course, you will have to spend 20.00 on gas to get there if you are coming from the Midtown, Buckhead or Downtown. They also have wonderful gooey butter cake.

Shel’les Insatiable Delights, hands down! She is a private baker and makes everything by hand. She started out bringing baked goods to her colleagues at Zurich, and it had mushroomed into a nice business for any occasion. Her cupcakes range from the standard to the extreme, pudding-filled delights that are to die for! We needed some for a school party and everyone wanted to get her name and number so that they could order on their own. My favorite is her strawberry cupcakes, and some are so good that they hardly even need frosting on the top.

1. Cami Cakes- the buttery-ness of the signature cake is amazing (yellow cake w/ pink frosting).

We tasted cupcakes from five different upscale bakeries as a part of an annual spring food tasting contest last year – Atlanta Cupcake Factory was the hands down winner in this head-to-head competition. 1st. Piece of Cake: I can live without the decorations, it’s all about the great taste! I get my birthday cakes from there and I love the seasonal flavors that they have. And the best part, there are numerous locations.
2nd. Chocolate Pink: It’s the place where you go if your giving yourself a “special treat” The cupcakes are good, but I think the whole atmosphere of Chocolate Pink is what most people go for.

To be honest, the best cupcakes are those that I make with my two year old daughter. She gets to do all the fun stuff like craking eggs, shifting flower and pouring it all in the bowl. The look on her face when she gets to lick a beater is priceless.
Cupcakes used to be a “treat” made with mom. Let’s get back to that in our own homes a bit more shall we.
If I do have to purchase any cakes or cupcakes, Piece of Cake is where I always go. Even if I do gain a pound eating on small slice. :-0

CAFE’ AROMAS IN LAWRENCEVILLE!!! They have the BEST cupcakes. They are reasonably priced at $2.00-$2.35. They have all different flavors. This cafe’ is so quaint. It is family owned and operated and they are wonderful to work with for wedding cakes, cupcakes, chocolate strawberries,etc. Oh and they also have a great food menu for lunch. I like to go have lunch and then a cupcake for dessert. My favorite is the strawberry. YUMMY – I get six at a time to take home for my family. (Chocolate, Red Velvet, Strawberry, German Chocolate, Peanut Butter/Chocolate). I think I am going to have to go today…just talking about them makes my mouth water!!!

Buttersweet Bakery N. Central Ave, has the BEST cupcakes ever. The Key Lime and Red Velvet are to die for. They make the experience at a Chastain concert one more layer of enjoyable. I was shocked they were so moist the next evening at the park. Stop by and try the many flavors of cupcakes they offer. Well worth the trip.

OMG, these are decadent little morsels of goodness! They have the standard flavors plus varying creative concoctions, depending on seasons, and the chef’s creativity. I agree. The Atlanta Cupcake Factory is a dream come true. The shop is small and quaint and the cakes are simple, but they are delicious. I’ve tried all the other places and they just don’t compare.

CamiCakes are sickeningly sweet, bordering on cloying, as are most of the cupcakes at other places. Chocolate Pink is probably the best of the lot.
No doubt, though, the over-sweetened goo is popular with the oversized society we have these days.

The Atlanta Cupcake Factory. To “RED” and “Gabrielle’s on Whitlock Ave in Marietta,” as soon as you said she was Paula Deen’s cousin I was turned off. Paula Deen has oversaturated the food market. She was great in the beginning when she kept herself real on her shows, but that didn’t last long. Now, she is sickening silly. Most of us can’t stand to watch her.

Okay, I’m a taster, not a baker. So here’s a “real review”: Sweet Pocket cupcakes. Lenny is the owner adn I met her when i bought my first cupcake at a coop she belonged to. She now has two stores — and if you are going nuts gearing up for a party etc, she will deliver. Plus she makes the cutest little “party flags” that said, I ask for my flags to be double sided, otherwise you get the sweet pockets logo on the other side (sorry Lenny but its cuter with graphics on both sides!). Her cupcakes are the best and she is a great person. My favorites are Red Velvet, Oreo, Starlight and Lemon Sunshine.

My co-workers and I decided to have a Cupcake Humpday Wednesday about a week ago. Kandice at The Cake House and More in Stockbridge baked us an assortment of beautifully decorated and extremely tasty cupcakes. There was an office full of women who were on serious cupcake overload!
Another reason The Cake House and More is the best is because unlike some of these other places, you can refrigerate the cakes, take them out a couple of days later, pop them in the microwave for about 10 seconds, and they taste as though they came straight out of the oven.

The smell was out of this world. The desserts looked so delicious that my mouth began to water. This non-sweets eating girl left with 2 german chocolate cupcakes, a slice of italian cream cheese cake, a slice of key lime and red velvet cake, a slice of a pumpkin roll filled with some kind of delicious filling, and a mini pound cake – everything BUT a cookie. Those other places like Highland, Cami Cakes, Maddie Cakes, etc. are cool but they are pricey. I shouldn’t have to pay $3-$4 for a miniature cupcake. If I’m going to pay that much, then I better get one of good quality & quantity.
Thank goodness for Debbie Pugh. She makes cupcakes that you have to eat with a fork, and serves them up with a smile!

I was never a big cake person growing up! I have worked at many doctors offices and drug reps would bring cakes from Piece of Cake so I started to like cakes more because, lets face it, they know how to make a cake. Then I went to Sweet n’ Sinful and I will never go any where else!!!!
My friends and I got some from there and we went and ate them in the car in the parking lot!! We were too excited and couldn’t wait to eat them! They have over 40 flavors that are AMAZING and the frosting is to die for!!! They also do wedding cakes, birthday cakes, grooms cakes, etc. The pastry chefs can make your cake look like anything!!! They are sooooo extremely talented! They not only look amazing, but they taste UNBELIEVABLE!
Darn it! All this talk about it now I’m gonna have to drive down there and get some!

LULA BEAN!!!! A new bakery in Buckhead right next to Fellini’s and La Fonda on Peachtree. Went to a sampling they had and were amazing!! They have brought the best desserts from around the country to their new spot.. They open in October….. Swear by them!!!!!!!!!!!

By far, the best cupcakes are from Sweet Pockets. Every flavour is great–I’ve tried them all–but banana with peanut butter frosting is to die for! They are baked from scratch and fresh daily, and, unlike some bakers, the owner knows how to incorporate enough air into the real buttercream so that the big swirl on top of the cake is light and does not overpower the cake.
