We had such a huge response in the nominations phase, and the nominees included many stadiums outside the metro Atlanta area. Since we like to leave some of the rules up to the readers, we decided we’d break the voting down into local and statewide facilities. Though we’ve confined our picks to the Atlanta area, we let you vote for both the local and the statewide stadium – and here are your winners.
YOUR PICKS (METRO ATLANTA)
1) Parkview High School’s Big Orange Jungle
You said, “I went to a rival school and played in the Big Orange Jungle at Parkview and that place was pretty cool looking.”
2) McEachern High School’s Cantrell Stadium
3) Marietta High School’s Northcutt Stadium
4) Atlanta Public Schools’ Lakewood Stadium
YOUR PICKS (STATEWIDE)

Carrollton's Grisham Stadium
1) Carrollton High School’s Grisham Stadium
You said, “Has got to be Grisham Stadium-Maddox Track at Historic Trojan Field in Carrollton, Ga. That place is immaculate. Turf field, chair back-fold down seats, jumbotron, 2 story fieldhouse and 2 story press box.”
2) Ware County High School’s Memorial Stadium
3) Valdosta High School’s Bazemore-Hyder Stadium
4) Elbert County Comprehensive High School’s Granite Bowl
5) Dublin High School’s Shamrock Bowl
OUR PICKS

5) Marietta’s Northcutt Stadium

That said, the granite bowl appears to have lots of character. Grisham is without a doubt first-class nice, if a wee bit antiseptic.

I agree….Northcutt is a dump. I remember playing there as a visitor in the band in the 90s and there was practically no sideline. Plus, the crowd was right on you.
When will MHS build NEW Northcutt?

Between the hedges of Glynn County Stadium, by far the best bermuda in the state and has been for 20 years. Hosted numerous state playoff games for other schools because of size constraints, shared by the two local high schools, and has hosted multiple JC Bowl games.

I would’ve voted for Brookwood Community Stadium, but they ruined it when they named it after that smuck Dave Hunter! What a joke, might as well make it, “Bud Kilmer Community Stadium”!

Sorry, Johnny Rebel…but none of your high school football stadiums even compare to Reitz Bowl in Evansville, Indiana!
In 2009, we added a new 300,000 dollar scoreboard and Sprint Turf(800 G’s)…and that field is simply the #1 place to watch a high school football game in America!
It holds 13,000 SRO, and it’s home to the F.J. Reitz Panthers…second all-time winningest program in Indiana H.S. football! (610-248-28)(10 State Championships)

Anyone care to consider Dalton High School? A bit outside the metro area, but one of the best high school stadiums in the state and maybe the country.

Spalding Stadium on the Marist High School campus in northeast Atlanta is without a doubt the most beautful and functional stadium in the entire state of Georgia. Talk about resourcefulness and loving care — the fundraising parents (using no tax dollars or drains on public education dollars) paid for each and every brick and slab of concrete themselves. Amazing and beautiful! Visit it and you will agree!

The Granite Bowl in Elberton, Georgia deserves credit for spirit. Of course other high schools have more money so they can get a very high tech stadium, but the Granite Bowl is original and you can hear the people cheer. It’s so full of life. It’s not like everybody elses stadium. It’s also made from Elberton’s most famous thing….GRANITE! it’s awesome!

Gotta go with Homer Sharp in downtown Covington. Talk about the history 53 years and still going strong, not to mention the recent renovations, looking good for an old girl.

I agree with DeJay. And would suggest the OLD Rockmart High School (Hilburn Field) as perhaps a prime example. The home stands and the visitors stands were right on top of the field. No tracks there. Unfortunately with the new school and facility It has been relegated to midget football and a Semi Pro league. I cant comment on the new facilities..haven’t been on that campus to this day.
New is not always better.

Allen High School in Allen, Texas is building a $60 million beast of a stadium. It will have an upper deck and a seating capacity of 18,000. There will be 2 video scoreboards, a 4,000 seat student section, and a sunken bowl design. Google it and it will come up. I went to Allen High School and the current stadium seats 14,000 and half of that is portable bleachers that they have to bring in for every home game because they have been selling out every single game for over the past decade. Since the 2006 season, Allen has an overall record of 48-6 and has only lost ONE home game, which was to the #1 nationally ranked Euless Trinity by a score of 24-14. Later in the year, the two met in the playoffs and Allen won and went on to win the school’s first state championship and finished as the #2 ranked team in the nation with a 15-1 record. Last year, Allen played Southlake Carroll in the new cowboys stadium in Arlington..there were 50,000 people in attendance. Moral of the story: nobody does high school football like Texas, nobody.
