I wish you would have posted this last week when I was in Tucker, GA. I could not find a good peach pie or cobbler anywhere and we asked everywhere we went. I tried the Pic-a-dilly in Tucker and The Varsity, downtown and neither offered the fresh peachy dessert I was looking forward to. I had hopes for the restaurant at the Forest Park Farmers Market, but they sold their last piece moments before our arrival. I did bring some fresh GA peaches home. The Pecan looks like the place to go. Next time!

Mine is really good – it’s my Momma’s recipe, but since I can’t invite everybody over for it, I will say Matthew’s in Tucker. There is really good. And to the person who said he/she couldn’t eat a Georgia peach, well, that just leaves more for the rest of us. And, in the years my tree produces, they are the best I have ever had. Nothin’ like home grown

First off, Buckner’s undercooks their dough. True cobbler has a slight crunchiness too it. Secondly, Buckners uses canned peaches. I love Buckner’s food(specially the yardbird) but the peach cobbler is not that good.
Georgia Peaches are terrible compared to those from Northern California, Oregon, and believe it or not, Illinois. I am a georgia boy through and through but our peaches SUCK!!! This redclay is just not good for Peaches.
Best peach cobbler is from Gladys Knights Chicken and Waffles.

“Let’s stop extolling the virtues of Georgia peaches. I’ve never tasted a good one. Clearly, better peaches come from South Carolina, California and New Jersey.”
It’s hard to find Georgia Elberta peaches in supermarkets because most are “contract” peaches, bought by large food companies several seasons before they are even grown. That’s how good they are. Most supermarkets only get culls, because they can’t compete with the contract buyers. Peaches at Publix aren’t the real things. Want to find the best examples of Georgia peaches–go to the state farmer’s market. Some manage to make it to market.

Let’s not forget the Varsity’s home-made apple and peach pies that have been a local favorite for 75+ years. At the North Avenue location, where they’re made each day they are even better if that’s possible…then add a hand scoop of any type of the many flavors of real ice cream they offer and you have a true Atlanta delight.

Not only should folks stop telling us about the best being in their kitchen or their mama’s kitchen; please stop naming restaurants outside of GA. If you want to recommend some restaurant in another state then do us all a favor and blog on that city/state’s local newspaper. We are looking “real” restaurants or bakeries in metro Atlanta specifically where “real” folks in metro Atlanta can go try the food of the moment. So for the best peach cobbler in the METRO ATL go to the Green Manor in Union City.
