We have our winners, and no one should be surprised that a local institution came out at the top of your list.
Atlantans just can’t get enough Waffle House. Though it has scattered to 25 states, and now covers most of the lower half of the U.S. from Delaware to Arizona, it began in Avondale Estates. Even when we’re away from Atlanta, we can still get a taste of home. Take a look at the rest of your picks for the best place to get breakfast in and around Atlanta.
Our dining critic, Meridith Ford Goldman, agreed with readers on three out of their five top picks, among them is the one that she puts at No. 1. Ria’s Bluebird is a place that combines some unusual breakfast items — such as the surprisingly yummy country-fried tempeh with biscuits and gravy — with many of the traditional favorites. Ria’s Bluebird has become a favorite for both its Grant Park and Cabbagetown neighbors and folks from all over town. Check out the rest of our picks for the best place to grab breakfast in and around Atlanta.

Original Pancake House, Windward Parkway location in Alpharetta. This place starts with a straightforward, top-quality product and then the staff executes extremely well, again and again. Go with the pancakes, fried eggs and bacon plate. Cannot be beat. And the coffee is extremely good–and served with rich, delicious creme. Perfect all the way around.

Anything with Bagel in the name is obviously omitted – we are in the south. It should be biscuit centric. If Hardees was full service breakfast their biscuits would not taste so good, so it must be The Hickory House, the big brother to JR’s Log House. The Waffle House certainly ranks top 3.

Douceur de France in Marietta is hard to beat for a great French breakfast. Despite there being no such thing as “French toast” in France, they’ve one-upped the American version for sure!
Louise’s by Kennesaw Mountain is the best greasy spoon around. I could eat a dozen of their “cathead” biscuits.
The other old standby has to be the Waffle House. Besides, it’s local!

Uptown Breakfast in Alpharetta — great French toast, excellent pancakes, waffles, blintzes, potato pancakes … everything I’ve had there has been really good and generously portioned. If you’re only counting ITP, OK Cafe has delicious breakfast options. Bagel Palace is probably my all-time favorite, but, well, as someone pointed out, since we’re in the South, I suppose we ought to choose something more traditional.

People! The BEST breakfast was the question, not the best breakfast when I’m drunk and nothing else is open. Thus, Waffle House is out. If you think it is still in the running, then you are not qualified to comment on anything related to food. Now, my nominees are Social House, West Egg, Thumbs Up, Ria’s, and Silver Skillet(what Waffle House wishes it was). The eggs benedict at Pastries A Go Go is worth nominating as the best dish in Atlanta period.

Silver Skillet hands down. Flying Biscuit is over-rated…turkey bacon, tofu eggs…and the aclaimed ‘hard and powdery’ biscuit; who wants to eat that?

Two eggs and sausage links…thanks for the come-back. Thought that might be the case in my quest to find “goetta” for breakfast. If someone would find a way to put this on their menu it would be a huge hit. You are right, I have my recipe from the old world from Cincinnati. It is sold commercially, but I lost the address from where to order. Guess I will have to make my next batch. How do you have any left to freeze? Never lasts that long around my house. Thanks again.
