Congratulations to The Ohio State University for beating Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl and posting its first win over an SEC team in a bowl game. It has been duly noted that thanks to the creative enforcement of the NCAA, Terrelle Pryor and the rest of the Ohio State Five made their contributions to the victory and we salute you for it. College football looks forward to having each and every one of you back for the 2011 season, when you will serve your five-game suspension. (Regular readers of this blog may insert their well wishes here.)
Wait a minute Tony, you SEC shill. Isn’t Auburn’s Cameron Newton playing in the national championship game Monday night because of the same inexplicable NCAA enforcement process?
Nope. I’ll explain on Thusday but today I want to talk about something fun.
And oh my goodness, this has a chance to be fun.
Michigan finally announced Wednesday morning that coach Rich Rodriguez has been fired.
There is no doubt that Michigan’s No. 1 choice is Stanford’ Jim Harbaugh but it sounds like he is not interested in returning to his alma mater
So if Harbaugh stays at Stanford or goes to the NFL, does Michigan take another run at at LSU’s Les Miles?
Miles was an offensive guard for Bo Schembechler from 1973-75. Randy Rosetta of the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate reports that Miles played one of those seasons with Brandon, who was a backup quarterback for Michigan and went on to make a fortune in the pizza business.
It’s pretty clear that a lot of the lettermen and alumni want a “Michigan man” back in charge of the program.
Remember that on Championship Saturday, 2007, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit reportered that Miles was headed back to Michigan. Just hours before the SEC Championship game in Atlanta LSU called a press conference and Miles angrily denied the report and said he was staying put. Miles became a member of the YouTube Hall of Fame that day when he told us to “Have A Great Day.” Then his LSU team went on to win the SEC championship and the National Championship.
Miles was bumped up to a salary of $3.751 million (one thousand more than Nick Saban) the following year) and he stayed at LSU.
But since the national championship in 2007 Miles has caught more than his fair share of grief. After some of the time management gaffes of 2009 and the continuing struggles on offense, a lot of LSU people wanted this guy gone. For about 90 seconds, when it appeared LSU had lost to Tennessee back in October, it appeared Miles was done at LSU.
Miles just pulls one escape after another and this season he beat Alabama, won 10 games, and has the Tigers in Friday’s Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M.
So if Michigan offers, would he be tempted to go this time?
A word of advice for the Michigan athletics director. If you really want the LSU coach you really only have to say two things to him:’
1) We would like the priviledge of paying you $5 million per year to coach our football team.
2) Michigan needs you. Bo would want you to come home and get us back to the Rose Bowl.
I think that would do it. Les Miles might just decide it is time to move on from the weekly insanity that is the SEC. And even if he stays in Baton Rouge, the process would be a really entertaining thing to watch.
If you were Les Miles and your alma called, would you go?

So what’s your record now against the SEC Bucknut, 1-9? Yeah, you really have room to talk alright.
I still remember 4 yrs ago when the heavily-favored “royalty” was emasculated by UF in Glendale. 85 yds total offense by your Heisman-winning QB. This just in – Troy Smith sacked again!!
The only royalty you are is the inbred, hump-backed knave half-brother the king has to keep in the closet.

No, Gatorzip-head, you’re the fool. The SEC is not the NFC East. It’s a conference that has 3-4 good teams just like any other conference. How does it feel to have lived a lie your whole life, thinking the SEC is this God-like entity? Thinking Ohio State couldn’t hang week in and week out in the mighty SEC is a joke. Ohio State gets kids from Ohio, Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc. Isn’t that where the mighty SEC gets their kids? And most of the kids who go to SEC schools couldn’t get in to Ohio State anyways…You don’t have to be a genius, but you do have to have some sort of academic standing, which SEC schools don’t have. Sore loser…

Hey, MB, I see your point about Georgia coaches not going elsewhere. I, too, am proud that the University of Georgia is not a steppingstone to other jobs.
Seriously, who would want to be a school whose coaches leave for other places? If you succeed at Georgia, then you retire at Georgia. If you fail at Georgia, then you cannot succeed anywhere. Sounds good to me.

Try again StoneColdDawg read the NCAA by-laws. You are Stone Cold Wrong on this. There is a huge loop-hole that needs to be closed. The key is “knowing involvement” by the student-athlete.
10.1 Unethical Conduct
Unethical conduct by a prospective or enrolled student-athlete or a current or former institutional staff member
(e.g., coach, professor, tutor, teaching assistant, student manager, student trainer) may include, but is not limited
to, the following:
(c) Knowing involvement in offering or providing a prospective or an enrolled student-athlete an improper inducement
or extra benefit or improper financial aid;
Violations of 10.1 are enforced as follows:
10.4 Disciplinary Action
Prospective or enrolled student-athletes found in violation of the provisions of this regulation shall be ineligible
for further intercollegiate competition, subject to appeal to the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement for
restoration of eligibility.

And, here’s some more, even better intrigue: could Will Muschamp be lured to LSU if Mils leaves? Big money says, yes. Muschamp coached there and loved it at LSU, a school with a real SEC pedigree, no in-state competition, and a rabid fan base. This could get real interesting.

Auburn’s defense to a prospective athlete receiving an improper benefit will be composed of three parts: a. that Cam Newton didn’t know his father solicited funds — the most crucial part b. Newton didn’t attend the school his father solicited funds from and c. no funds ever changed hands for Newton to attend school at Auburn.

All that was from you was pointless blather. OSU’s strength of schedule this past year was lower than Boise State – and what conference are they in? The Big Ten is weak, even your own commissioner acknowledged so this week.
BTW, UF is more highly-ranked academically than OSU.

For those claiming SEC by-laws were violated…..
“SEC Bylaw 14.01.3.2 does not apply in this situation,” SEC spokesman Charles Bloom said . “It only applies when there is an actual payment of an improper benefit, or an agreement (such as a handshake agreement) to pay and receive an improper benefit. The facts in this case, as we understand them, are that the
student-athlete’s father, without the knowledge of the student-athlete, solicited improper payments (which were rejected) from an institution the young man did not attend, and that the institution where the young man is enrolled was not involved.”

Everybody knows that if Arkansas had showed up, they would have won by 50. OSU doesn’t have that SEC speed.
After all, the SEC is 8-0 in the bowls thus far. Well, actually 3-5, but everybody knows that if the teams in those 5 losses had showed up, they would have won by 50. Those other teams don’t have that SEC speed.
Even the NFL knows this. Look at their rosters. Nothing but SEC players are ever taken in the draft.
This is because, for the most part, nobody in any other conference in America can play football, and certainly not with that SEC speed.

Meatchicken really wants Harbaugh. Harbaugh could go to the 49ers, and possibly swing a unbeliveable package deal to get Luck. Fox is gone at Carolina. Jimmy has been looking out of his earhole the entire year. (Reminiscent of watching the weis debacle of the dark season–good luck with _that_ egomaniac next year, Gators.) AuTigerAtl, right back at ya kiddo. You barners have made me sick this year too. Once a respected fan base, you have sold your souls to the devil and lost your moral compass. And don’t give me any effing crap about how I’m jealous. I have ALWAYS cheered for the SEC in BCS Title games, but this year I’m going to make a special exception. I hope Oregon smacks the goofy smile right off Cam Newton’s face. The guy is a total showboat. And as for Fairley, I’m not even worried about him. His overrated fat azz will be sucking wind by the start of the 2nd quarter against that Oregon offense. He will be a non-factor, kind of like he was against UGA except for the late hits. The SEC is down this year and Auburn’s one trick pony show benefitted from it. Did you happen to see Stanford play the other night? They looked like worldbeaters. Well, Oregon beat them like a drum. Good luck on Monday. You’re going to need it.
Go Ducks.

Michigan’s problems began long before Rich Rod stepped foot on campus. Les Miles would be an idiot (Wait… he is, isn’t he?) to return to that wasteland. If they’re lucky, RR will accept a raise to stay on-board.
Congrats to the Buckeyes. You finally beat an SEC team. This was Arky’s first BCS bowl — and it showed. I knew when Mallet’s first two passes were dropped like a hot rock that it was going to be a long night for the Razorbacks. They made a decent effort to get back into the game, but it was too little too late.
That said, both the Buckeyes and the Waw Weagles should really just STFU and graciously accept the gifts that the NCAA has given them. Winning with asterisks is still winning. Some teams just have to take it any way that they can get it. Cheating to win is one thing, but bragging about it only proves that you have no class.

LSU is competitive every year. Would Les go to a school that isn’t and won’t be for some time? Don’t think so regardless of the money. Michigan dug a hole with Rich Rod and poor decisions. The change has to start there, not with a new coach, although a new coach would certainly help.

Harbaugh goes to Denver, and takes Luck with him. Anyone notice how prominent Elway was being displayed at the Orange Bowl, and he definitly has the Denver connection.
Miles is now “damaged goods”, the Michiganites are true “Blue Bloods” who think they are better than anyone else. I can only imagine their disdain as they watch their QB run around with “dreadlocks”. Rich Rod is gone, don’t have a clue as to who will replace him.

For all the idiots on here that don;t think that some type of shopping doesn;t go on almost every day at almost every university is a fool. Even at the sacred cow in this area UGA. Kids and even their parents ask for improper benefits every day. These benefits do not have to be cash but can be meals, travel, clothes and even tutoring that is not offered to every other student. The rule does not specify that it has to be $180,000 or a shirt. No one has ever been suspeneded for asking. You are suspended for receiving.
