Mr. CFB will return on Dec. 27

This is the time of year when Mrs.  College Football puts her foot down.

A regular season that really began in June with conference expansion is finally over. The bowls are coming up and we have a national championship game on Jan. 10 that has a chance to be very special.

So with  your indulgence and understanding  I will take my ususal Christmas break and re-introduce myself to the family. I will return on Monday, Dec. 27 and we’ll start getting ready for the post-season.

As we take this break  Florida has hired a new coach in Will Muschamp and a whole new chapter in the SEC begins. Gus Malzahn, who was a successful high school coach just five years ago, has been given a multi-year contract at a reported $1.3 million per year to stay at Auburn. Wow! It is going to be a very Merry Christmas for a bunch of assistant coaches in this league.

So yeah, there is still stuff going on. In this sport in this part of the world there is ALWAYS stuff going on.

It has been a great season on the field and a tough season off the field. I’ll get into that when I wrap things up after the national championship game.

As always, I want to thank you for your support of this space. While we don’t always agree, there is no doubt that we have the smartest, most passionate group of readers in the business here at Mr. College Football.

I hope you and your families have a wonderful Christmas. Let’s recharge our batteries and get ready for the stretch run.

Merry Christmas. See you on Dec. 27

Hey Bama Fan. It’s Christmas…not X-mas. In Alabama you only use “X” when signing your name.

Tony, have you noticed that the FCS is having a wonderful college football tournament. They are doing this in order to have a TRUE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP that is earned ON THE FIELD. It is down to the final 4 already.

Compare that to the idiocy of the BS—bcs. A crappy unfairly chosen matchup that gives a totally fake champion (sic). And even worse, 34 totally meaningless crappy mathcup bowl games that almost NOBODY cares about…not even the teams playing in the them.

We need a 16 team playoff. It would be the most exciting sportiing event in the history of the world. And it would crown a true champion…earned ON THE FIELD.

Tony, the fact that you continue to be a shill for this BS—bcs just shows what a sellout you really are.

**** TONY – have a wonderful Christmas break with the family, and enjoy your time reacquainting yourself with family. College football demands a lot in a short amount of time from the national beat writers and other national/local media who follow the game and their teams. Merry Christmas Tony, thanks for the blog and providing a platform to share stories, fan bickering, react to rumors, and just fun old trading jabs with one another. ***

Tony, you are very right. The national title game could be very, very special. Sure, the USC vs. Texas matchup had two teams ranked #1/2 all year and that game was built up beginning in August. This Auburn / Oregon game though has enough fireworks to blow Arizona back into Mexico. I know I’ll be there in person cheering on my Oregon Ducks, gunning for their first National Championship in 115 years of college football. We don’t care the history of the Alabama’s, the Michigan’s of the world, but you can dam well bet that our fans will be raucous, loud, and at a pitch fervor come early January in Glendale and Phoenix. Portland Oregon paper predicting 45,000 Duck fans to flock to Phoenix metro even though maybe ½ will have game tickets. (only 17,500 given to both schools Alumni Associations, everything else has to be bought on secondary market). It’s going to be crazy.

next time you see Wes Durham, can you ask him to please stop pronouncing the word “throw” like “thow”, he leaves the “R” out of the word and I am sick of listening to it..also he says “Dudn’t” for “Doesn’t”. I mean it is one thing when the bubbas of the world talk this way but this man is the Atlanta Falcons broadcaster and should know better, and Tony so should you both of you have gotten away with this in your careers is beyond me….GEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Malzahn passes on an offer to leave Auburn and signs for $1.3m. Seems like he believes Auburn is absolutely clean in the whole “play for pay” scheme. Otherwise, he’d get out. Merry Christmas to all the SEC and let’s hope for a successful SEC Bowl Season, including keeping the crystal trophy in the south, where it belongs.

Is Tony out hosting the Kiss Cam Newton’s Butt Party? Really disappointed in how Tony, and some others, have just ignored the extent to which this guy and his family have completely run afoul of the NCAA rulebook.
I’m no Gator fan but kudos to UF for announcing Muschamp’s hiring while that cheater accepted the tainted Heisman in NYC. The only thing better would have been for them to release his acadmic “record” while he was at Florida.

@SEC All the way

Seems more likely to me that Malzahn thinks that Vandy runs a clean program and that he therefore couldn’t win there. That, and the $1.3m that Auburn is paying him to hang around.
