Auburn beats Alabama at the buzzer

Man, a whole bunch of stuff is going to happen in the next 48 hours. I’ll make this quick because I’m headed out the door to Tuscaloosa:

1. Auburn at Alabama: I have heard a lot of reasons why Alabama is going to win this game and all them make sense. I am certainly not going to be shocked if the Crimson Tide prevails in the Iron Bowl, particularly if Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has a good day throwing the ball. But Auburn has been a very resilient team under pressure and I just think the Tigers will find a way to win.  Auburn will get the last possession and Cam Newton will drive the Tigers into position for Wes Byrum to kick the game-winning field goal: Auburn 27, Alabama 24.

2. Georgia Tech at Georgia: Both teams have had disappointing seasons but right now I just think Georgia has more athletes, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Georgia Tech will have to commit an extra defender to stop the run and then Aaron Murray and A.J. Green will make some big plays in the passing game. Georgia 31, Georgia Tech 21.

3. LSU at Arkansas (Little Rock): This looks like a dangerous game for LSU (10-1) because Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has thrown for over 300 yards eight times this season. But I just can’t bet against Les Miles and this LSU team, which will find yet another way to win. LSU 28, Arkansas 27.

4. Kentucky at Tennessee: Tennessee (5-6) has beaten Kentucky 25 straight times and needs another win to qualify for a bowl. Kentucky (6-5) has had a tough time stopping anybody. I’m looking for a shootout. Tennessee 35, Kentucky 31.

5. Mississippi State at Ole Miss:  Mississippi State (7-4) has four losses to No. 2 Auburn, No. 5 LSU, No. 11 Alabama, and No. 12 Arkansas. The Bulldogs are a good football team that has beaten Georgia and Florida. Mississippi State 31, Ole Miss 17.

6. Florida at Florida State:  I’m just not sure how fired up the Gators are going to be to play anybody this week. Florida State wins this game and hopes that Maryland beats N.C. State. That would give the Seminoles a trip to next week’s ACC championship game. Florida State 28, Florida 21.

7.  South Carolina at Clemson: South Carolina is not going to overextend itself because the SEC championship game with Auburn is coming up next week. Marcus Lattimore gets the ball less than 10 times and the game is close. South Carolina 17, Clemson 10.

8. N.C. State at Maryland: A win puts N.C. State into the ACC championship game against Virginia Tech. A Maryland win puts Florida State into the ACC title game. N.C. State has Russell Wilson at quarterback and that should be enough. N.C. State 24, Maryland 20.

9. Oklahoma at Oklahoma State: Oklahoma State (10-1) leads the nation in total offense with 552 yards and 45.27 points per game. A win puts the Cowboys into their first-ever Big 12 championship game. Go with the Pokes because they simply have too many weapons. Oklahoma State 28, Oklahoma 24.

10. Michigan at Ohio State: The Buckeyes (10-1) are trying to win their seventh straight game over Michigan and to lock up a BCS bowl for the sixth straight season. They will do both.  Ohio State 28, Michigan 10.

My son will NOT play in the SEC championship game until we re-negotiate his contract. I only sold him for regular season games. My son needs a raise so it’s time to pay up Pat Dye. The church has spoken . Amen

Sorry when Nevada now has the most prolific running tandum in college football I don’t think Boise could handle Big Boy Football. Boise wouldn’t even want to try and stay on the field with Oregon muchless Wisconson, Auburn, or FSU.

Also I would like to adopt Nick Fairley and re-negotiate his contract as well. Grades being changed is enough for a player of his caliber. He wants a happy meal with a toy and a coloring book .

Tony, where to you hide the crystal ball? I wonder if this win on the field will make the forfeits a little easier. I don’t understand why the NCAA is allowing this to continue, they’re going to have egg on their faces when all is said and done.

Auburn is one win away from the BCS CG, however the classlessness of this group of fans is the reason why they are voted the most obnoxious fans in the SEC. The program is such a fake program and the Board/Adminstration/Compliance/Booster are in such dissarray and malcontentious personalities that under no circumstances will they be a long term threat to the SEC and its members.

Just look at the Post from Auburn fans on here and the taste is of such ill informed, lack of common sense, chromosomes lacking, intelligence speaks for itself.

Everyone with a brain knows what Auburn has done in this one year cycle to get them where they are now, and at any other institution the coaching staff, AD, and support personnel would be fired by the President for violation of basic rules and compliance standards. “BOUGHT AND PAID FOR” is the new motto for all recruits who sign in December from JC and in February for High School Athletes. Before long the brazen attitudes will be Auburn boosters approaching opposing teams players after games making deals for transfers. It is the Auburn Way.

We may be 5-6 but at least we know how to manage a program of compliance, how kids may get into trouble but at least our coaches are not driving the bus to the party.

Stay Classless Auburn, you have earned it.

Another win fueled by one player. Oh, BTW, he’s not eligible. Apparently winning is so important to Auburn that it does not matter whether it is done the right way or not. Sad.

Well Auburn is 2 wins away from being the 6 national championship won in the SEC on Mark Richts watch and GA is falling deeper into the pitts of Hell. Mark Richt should have been fired 3 years ago but all the kool-aid drinking fans at Georgia thinks he is the next coming. Georgia is right there in the class of the SEC with VAndy, Mississippi & Kentucky. That is about as simple as I can say it.

CMR is not the answer..that is for sure, but we can all agree, even without being a strict disciplinarian and manager of his kids legal issues, he does not run a program like the one that is run at Auburn. I can take a down year or two, but I could not take winning at any means as it is apparently being done at Auburn.

You have the most penalized team in the NCAAs for the last 4 years and you have been in the top in the Fulmer Cup rankings for 4 of the last 5 years. UGA is no great academic instutition. UGA graduates players just behind Vandy! HAHAAHAHAHA look at the Majors UGA is graduating players in. With the degrees DAWGS get they can’t use them to get a job paying more than $18k a year. Let UGA players take classes at Duke, Floida, UNC, Tech and UGA will not be graduating players at such a high rate.

I obviously enjoy it more when we beat Auburn 4 out 5 times like we are currently doing. However, I have a great job, a wonderful family, love to play golf, go out to eat, travel, visit friends, etc. While you may have difficulty getting your mind around this: My life is good whether we win 12 games or 5 games. Football is a game fella. Nothing more, nothing less. Loved ones dying makes for a bad day, not losing a football game. I tell you all this so you will not commit suicide when your beloved Tigers have to forfeit all games Cam Newton played in.

In November of 2009 Newton’s father Cecil solicited more than $100,000 from Mississippi State as a precondition to his son playing for the Bulldogs. Cecil Newton has admitted to soliciting the money. Whether any similar solicitation was made to Auburn, and whether Auburn paid any money to Newton or his family are unanswered questions. But these are questions entirely irrelevant to Newton’s eligibility to play football in the Southeastern Conference.

Bylaw 14.01.3.2 of the Southeastern Conference states as follows: If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution, a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference … such student-athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.

Why is he still playing? The rule is pretty clear…..

Oh, yeah: The NCAA doesn’t “do something” because there is nothing for them to do. Cam Newton is eligible with no problem. All this is smoke being blown by one irresponsible writer. I think someone named Cam stole his lunchbox in third grade. In the meantime, it’s Great To Be An Auburn Tiger!

Cecil Newton-a member of Cam’s family-has admitted to soliciting money and agreeing to accept aid or assistance in addition to permissible grant in aid. Therefore, Cam Newton is ineligible to play anywhere in the Conference. Only a Pharisee, or a tax lawyer, could construe this bylaw to be inapplicable to the Newton situation.

It doesn’t matter whether Cam Newton knew about his father’s conduct. It doesn’t matter whether any money actually made its way into the Newtons’ pockets. It doesn’t matter whether Mississippi State is the only school from which Cecil Newton solicited money. Cam Newton is not eligible to play football “within the Conference.”

The Auburn apologists have raised a number of defenses. Cecil did not ask Auburn for money. Cam did not know what his father was doing. No money changed hands. Even if one willingly suspends disbelief and accepts these assertions at face value, it does not change the fact that what Cecil Newton has publicly admitted renders his son ineligible to play football in the SEC. Cam might be eligible to play in some other conference, but not the SEC and not at Auburn.

So….the auburn people might want to read the by laws…because I’m pretty sure it’s clear Cam is not eligible to play at Auburn according to what his father has admitted…The question is..why is it taking so long for the SEC to do something about it? Money, money, money….that’s why. If they don’t enforce their own rules then they are a joke IMO

By the way, UGA players are not taking classes at Duke. If they were, they would be Duke players. In what world does the ranking of things that do not exist matter? UGA players are taking classes at UGA. That is all UGA can control in thier graduation rates. And in that, they are doing a fantastic job.

MikeP

katherine, Newton is still playing because your premise, that Cecil Newton solicited money, is not true.

Cecil Newton has not admitted to soliciting money. A TV journalist claims that an un-named source told him that Cecil solicited money. Big difference. Like everything else about this, there is no substance.

Fortunately, investigators don’t rely on unnamed third party statements. Investigators get to the truth, and the truth is that Cam Newton is eligible to play. If he weren’t he’d have been benched back in August. After all, the SEC has been all over this since January, which is 10 months.

Mississippi State may wind up having a problem out of this. Auburn and Cam Newton will not.
