Auburn beats Alabama at the buzzer

Man, a whole bunch of stuff is going to happen in the next 48 hours. I’ll make this quick because I’m headed out the door to Tuscaloosa:

1. Auburn at Alabama: I have heard a lot of reasons why Alabama is going to win this game and all them make sense. I am certainly not going to be shocked if the Crimson Tide prevails in the Iron Bowl, particularly if Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has a good day throwing the ball. But Auburn has been a very resilient team under pressure and I just think the Tigers will find a way to win.  Auburn will get the last possession and Cam Newton will drive the Tigers into position for Wes Byrum to kick the game-winning field goal: Auburn 27, Alabama 24.

2. Georgia Tech at Georgia: Both teams have had disappointing seasons but right now I just think Georgia has more athletes, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Georgia Tech will have to commit an extra defender to stop the run and then Aaron Murray and A.J. Green will make some big plays in the passing game. Georgia 31, Georgia Tech 21.

3. LSU at Arkansas (Little Rock): This looks like a dangerous game for LSU (10-1) because Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has thrown for over 300 yards eight times this season. But I just can’t bet against Les Miles and this LSU team, which will find yet another way to win. LSU 28, Arkansas 27.

4. Kentucky at Tennessee: Tennessee (5-6) has beaten Kentucky 25 straight times and needs another win to qualify for a bowl. Kentucky (6-5) has had a tough time stopping anybody. I’m looking for a shootout. Tennessee 35, Kentucky 31.

5. Mississippi State at Ole Miss:  Mississippi State (7-4) has four losses to No. 2 Auburn, No. 5 LSU, No. 11 Alabama, and No. 12 Arkansas. The Bulldogs are a good football team that has beaten Georgia and Florida. Mississippi State 31, Ole Miss 17.

6. Florida at Florida State:  I’m just not sure how fired up the Gators are going to be to play anybody this week. Florida State wins this game and hopes that Maryland beats N.C. State. That would give the Seminoles a trip to next week’s ACC championship game. Florida State 28, Florida 21.

7.  South Carolina at Clemson: South Carolina is not going to overextend itself because the SEC championship game with Auburn is coming up next week. Marcus Lattimore gets the ball less than 10 times and the game is close. South Carolina 17, Clemson 10.

8. N.C. State at Maryland: A win puts N.C. State into the ACC championship game against Virginia Tech. A Maryland win puts Florida State into the ACC title game. N.C. State has Russell Wilson at quarterback and that should be enough. N.C. State 24, Maryland 20.

9. Oklahoma at Oklahoma State: Oklahoma State (10-1) leads the nation in total offense with 552 yards and 45.27 points per game. A win puts the Cowboys into their first-ever Big 12 championship game. Go with the Pokes because they simply have too many weapons. Oklahoma State 28, Oklahoma 24.

10. Michigan at Ohio State: The Buckeyes (10-1) are trying to win their seventh straight game over Michigan and to lock up a BCS bowl for the sixth straight season. They will do both.  Ohio State 28, Michigan 10.

As many of you know, I worked for 10 years in the Athletic Department at Auburn. I am family friends with Jay Jacobs, though I am not particularly close to him. There have been a lot of rumors going around about what the Auburn administration knows and doesn’t know, and I think I can shed some light onto that. Like I said, I am close to the Jacobs family, and this info comes directly from a relative of Jay.

The FBI has been investigating McGregor for the gambling conspiracy probe, but none of that turned up any information on Cam Newton or any other Auburn players. It did, however, turn up some dirt on our old friend Kenny Rogers. Apparently Kenny has been doing this song and dance for awhile, setting up Mississippi State players with boosters to get paid to play. Well, the money started drying up at Miss St. A couple of the major boosters helping out have lost everything in the economic collapse. Kenny called Cecil Newton and told him about the arrangements that Miss St players of a certain value normally got. Kenny said he could make it happen for a 10% cut. Cecil, in a lapse of judgment, agreed. Rogers approached the normal boosters for the money, but they rejected him. That is where things got hairy. According to what Cecil has admitted to the Auburn administration, Rogers then approached Bond and Bell for the money. He initially asked for 180K, but they declined. Rogers claimed other colleges were offering more, even though it wasn’t true. It was just a bargaining ploy. He dropped the price all the way down to 100K before Cecil decided better of it and backed out. Cecil told Auburn everything, and the SEC has known about this since January. The NCAA has known about it since July, and Cam is still eligible.

This is where the FBI comes in. When Rogers realized he wasn’t getting any money at Miss St, he approached some well known Auburn boosters, including McGregor. That is when the FBI got him on tape. The FBI has Rogers admitting that he had orchestrated pay for play at Miss St with a couple of boosters named on the tape. The FBI is looking at bank records and transactions of the boosters as we speak. This will not end well at all for Mississippi State. The Miss St coaches had no idea how deep this went. If they had, they would not have stirred up this hornets nest. They had assumed Cam had been paid to go to Auburn, but he is completely innocent. McGregor had told Rogers, who at that time didn’t even have any contact with the Newtons, that he was not into paying players. But this explains why the FBI was asking the Miss St people about McGregor: because of his association with Kenny Rogers.

Academics does matter to most schools except for football factories like Auburn…

Alabama’s 2009 freshman class did more than just excel on the football field, the Crimson Tide placed 12 rookies on the 2010 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, by far the highest total in the SEC — double the second-place team. Mississippi State was second with six while Mississippi had five and Kentucky had four. The Crimson Tide’s 12 honorees equaled the total number of Arkansas (3), Tennessee (3), Florida (2), Georgia (2), Auburn (1), Vanderbilt (1) and LSU (0) combined. Alabama freshmen that made the list include: Kenny Bell, Chris Bonds, D.J. Fluker, Nico Johnson, Kendall Kelly, Eddie Lacy, A.J. McCarron, William Ming, Kevin Norwood, Trent Richardson, Chance Warmack and Kellen Williams.

As a fan of and supporter of high school football and college football, it is sickening to watch these colleges wear these uniforms that Nike gives them, but yet high schools have to pay an unbelievable price for uniforms.

10th line of paragraph 2 of post by ATL is Tiger Town explains why Cam Newton is ineligible to play for any schoold in SEC, “Cecil, in a lapse of judgment, agreed.” The Preacher man agreed to accept cash in return for the Son of a Preacher Man agreeing to play football for MSU. That, my fellow sport fans, makes Cam Newton inelgible to play football in the SEC. According to ATL is Tiger Town the Auburn Atletic Director knows this happened. Absolutely shocking! If true, the AD has allowed a clearly inelgible player to play the whole season! We can surely correctly assume the Head Coach also knew! One can only wonder if the death penalty is actually in play in light of this evidence.

I’m no Auburn fan BUT Slive has definitely put the “fix” in with the refs. It’s going to give all the ammo anyone wants to make a case that the SEC front office boys have no moral character whatsoever. How sarcastic of that pompous ass(Slive) to routinely talk about the integrity of the SEC and then apparently give”orders” to call it tight one way( all on Fairely). Alabama is playing well BUT whoever the jackass was that called the unsportsmanlike penalty after the sack is definitely on somebody’s payroll. The refs have done their damage, Bama didn’t need any help and now the rest of the country knows what we’ve all known for ages. SEC officiating is the worst in the country.
