Auburn beats Alabama at the buzzer

Man, a whole bunch of stuff is going to happen in the next 48 hours. I’ll make this quick because I’m headed out the door to Tuscaloosa:

1. Auburn at Alabama: I have heard a lot of reasons why Alabama is going to win this game and all them make sense. I am certainly not going to be shocked if the Crimson Tide prevails in the Iron Bowl, particularly if Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has a good day throwing the ball. But Auburn has been a very resilient team under pressure and I just think the Tigers will find a way to win.  Auburn will get the last possession and Cam Newton will drive the Tigers into position for Wes Byrum to kick the game-winning field goal: Auburn 27, Alabama 24.

2. Georgia Tech at Georgia: Both teams have had disappointing seasons but right now I just think Georgia has more athletes, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Georgia Tech will have to commit an extra defender to stop the run and then Aaron Murray and A.J. Green will make some big plays in the passing game. Georgia 31, Georgia Tech 21.

3. LSU at Arkansas (Little Rock): This looks like a dangerous game for LSU (10-1) because Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has thrown for over 300 yards eight times this season. But I just can’t bet against Les Miles and this LSU team, which will find yet another way to win. LSU 28, Arkansas 27.

4. Kentucky at Tennessee: Tennessee (5-6) has beaten Kentucky 25 straight times and needs another win to qualify for a bowl. Kentucky (6-5) has had a tough time stopping anybody. I’m looking for a shootout. Tennessee 35, Kentucky 31.

5. Mississippi State at Ole Miss:  Mississippi State (7-4) has four losses to No. 2 Auburn, No. 5 LSU, No. 11 Alabama, and No. 12 Arkansas. The Bulldogs are a good football team that has beaten Georgia and Florida. Mississippi State 31, Ole Miss 17.

6. Florida at Florida State:  I’m just not sure how fired up the Gators are going to be to play anybody this week. Florida State wins this game and hopes that Maryland beats N.C. State. That would give the Seminoles a trip to next week’s ACC championship game. Florida State 28, Florida 21.

7.  South Carolina at Clemson: South Carolina is not going to overextend itself because the SEC championship game with Auburn is coming up next week. Marcus Lattimore gets the ball less than 10 times and the game is close. South Carolina 17, Clemson 10.

8. N.C. State at Maryland: A win puts N.C. State into the ACC championship game against Virginia Tech. A Maryland win puts Florida State into the ACC title game. N.C. State has Russell Wilson at quarterback and that should be enough. N.C. State 24, Maryland 20.

9. Oklahoma at Oklahoma State: Oklahoma State (10-1) leads the nation in total offense with 552 yards and 45.27 points per game. A win puts the Cowboys into their first-ever Big 12 championship game. Go with the Pokes because they simply have too many weapons. Oklahoma State 28, Oklahoma 24.

10. Michigan at Ohio State: The Buckeyes (10-1) are trying to win their seventh straight game over Michigan and to lock up a BCS bowl for the sixth straight season. They will do both.  Ohio State 28, Michigan 10.

Didn’t mean to change the blog tone, just wanted to remind people that this is just a game Saturday, even though it means alot to all of us. Next year we will do it all over again, as I have since the late 60’s. Never made me actually hate anyone when we lost, or did I rub it in when we won although I do remember some really obnoxious fans on both sides.

JD, Sorry to hear about your friend. Most all of my friends are die hard Dawg fans so we have a lot good natured ribbing. I love my Jackets, they have disappointed me this season but I think we will be better next season. Not all UGA fans are bad but it is the certain few that really makes them look stupid but I guess Tech has them too. Just wishing for the best Saturday. Go Jackets!!

Auburn, one of the two luckiest teams in America, loses to Alabama by 13: The Bama defense stops Auburn offense half of the time. The Aurburn defense stops the balanced Bama offense only about 3 times during the game. Alabama runners have a great game.
Alabama 33 Auburn 20

Georgia Tech plays with heart but can’t stop the UGA offense. Without Nesbit, the Tech offense is erratic and shoots itself in the foot too many times. Paul Johnson knows he has to gamble and Tech goes 1 for 4 on fourth down conversions. Aaron Murray has a great game and UGA offensive line takes control.
UGA 34 Tech 17

LSU, probably the luckiest team in America, loses to Arkansas. Arkansas scores early and Razorback fans give their team steady and enthusiastic volume throughout the game. Mallet reads the blitzes and keeps hitting secondary receivers for 10-15 yards. Arkansas defense plays a touch, stubborn game. Big win for the Arkansas program; LSU runs out of luck.
Arkansas 24 LSU 16

FSU feels the wind at its back, finally, in the Sunshine State. FSU fans have been smiling a lot more now that Bobby Bowden off the field–finally. (My Penn State friend let out a string of some pretty foul language when he heard eternal Joe Paterno is coming back next year.) FSU is on the rise; UF is not.
FSU 27 UF 17

Georgia beats Tech and we’re off on another 365 days of excuses from the nerdherd about calculus and not being able to recruit the illiterate hardened violent gangbanging felons that UGA supposedly recruits.

Its getting quite boring actually. You almost want another 45-42 type fluke to keep things interesting but then you remember all the pain and degredation that Techies experience when they lose to us. I just can’t pass that up.

Old Gold and White, we want to apologize to you, personally, for not having attended the fine facility known as the Georgia Institute of Technology. We realize that experience could have given us a very narrow minded and pompous view of the world, and for that, we have truly missed out on the finer things in life. We’re sorry we shop at Walmart; instead of Sax, Neiman Marcus, or Lord&Taylor. Our favorite foods include beer and wings. We just can’t afford Earl Grey and caviar. But alas Old Gold, we have people like you who we try to emulate. The world really does revolve around all things bred of Tech….and we thank you for reminding us of that everyday.

Clemson will beat sc, like ga beat tech last year, then sc beats allbarn and clemson is the sec champions, like ga fans said about the acc last year. and clemson with it’s strong game against aub, best opponent so far, and it’s shalacking of sc, will indeed go to the sugar bowl as sec champs. they proved it on the field.

Tony is picking Auburn because that’s the only shot the SEC has to make it to the BCS championship game. If Auburn loses, Tony will have a stroke because the SEC will not be in the big game. Tony is hoping beyond all hope that Auburn wins… wouldn’t surprise me if Commish Slive makes sure the refs hand Auburn the victory.

hotbobby from where I’m sitting we actually played better ball this year..record doesn’t show it but we didn’t get blown out of any games and in fact could have pulled out the SC,Ark games and should have beat the Gators. Auburn has a stronger squad and we played them tough..with a redshirt QB and new D…I don’t like the record but I understand it….I really like Murray and I think the D has come along pretty well..so yeah lets put the beat down on the Bugs tomorrow and look forward to better things next year. and bobby its always time to talk trash about the Bugs..

Tony – While I am aware that you are one of those folks who is somewhat clueless when it comes to legal matters, i.e., just what the word “evidence” actually means for instance, there is a pretty good analysis of this whole Cam Newton fiasco written by a Birmingham lawyer in the Williamson Herald in Alabama. The writer does a good job of explaining why Cam is actually ineligible under SEC rules.

See http://www.williamsonherald.com/sports?id=73586

I find the text of the SEC’s own rule interesting. It seems clear to me, also a lawyer. While I don’t expect you to reply, I am nevertheless curious as to how you would respond to how Auburn can continue to play someone they must know is ineligible.

“You’re supposed to beat us moron.”

And that is exactly what we do, year after year after damn year. Anyway, we weren’t supposed to beat you back in August when you were a preseason top 15 team. Its only when your piece of dog crap teams chole that you cowards go running behind the “you’re supposed to beat us” line, like we’ve never heard that one before. I swear there is some handbook on lame Techie comebacks that you idiots use.

Okay Techie, we’re supposed to beat you. Have fun getting that Techie azz whooped for the 9th time in 10 years tomorrow. No worries right? Its supposed to happen.

I am an Auburn fan but I am proud that an Alabama player won the Heisman and that Alabama won the National Championship. Now what about the prestige for our state if Auburn did the same thing on consecutive years.
I wish the fans of both schools could be as sportsmanlike as the teams on the field. The players offer congratulations and hugs between each other because they are old friends.
We are fortunate to have a game like the Iron Bowl in our state, now let’s display good sportsmanship like the players do,

No MURPHY. If Tech started recruiting better they wouldn’t have an excuse so they could feel sorry for themselves. That’s what Techies are all about, not winning. Besides, its clearly UGA’s fault that Tech can’t recruit better players. Everything is our fault. We should spot them 2 touchdowns every year and let their mommies sit on the sidelines with them to make things fair.

Wawawawawawawawawa….cry babies cry. Can’t wait to beat that Techie nerd azz tomorrow, like we’re supposed to of course.
