Auburn beats Alabama at the buzzer

Man, a whole bunch of stuff is going to happen in the next 48 hours. I’ll make this quick because I’m headed out the door to Tuscaloosa:

1. Auburn at Alabama: I have heard a lot of reasons why Alabama is going to win this game and all them make sense. I am certainly not going to be shocked if the Crimson Tide prevails in the Iron Bowl, particularly if Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has a good day throwing the ball. But Auburn has been a very resilient team under pressure and I just think the Tigers will find a way to win.  Auburn will get the last possession and Cam Newton will drive the Tigers into position for Wes Byrum to kick the game-winning field goal: Auburn 27, Alabama 24.

2. Georgia Tech at Georgia: Both teams have had disappointing seasons but right now I just think Georgia has more athletes, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Georgia Tech will have to commit an extra defender to stop the run and then Aaron Murray and A.J. Green will make some big plays in the passing game. Georgia 31, Georgia Tech 21.

3. LSU at Arkansas (Little Rock): This looks like a dangerous game for LSU (10-1) because Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has thrown for over 300 yards eight times this season. But I just can’t bet against Les Miles and this LSU team, which will find yet another way to win. LSU 28, Arkansas 27.

4. Kentucky at Tennessee: Tennessee (5-6) has beaten Kentucky 25 straight times and needs another win to qualify for a bowl. Kentucky (6-5) has had a tough time stopping anybody. I’m looking for a shootout. Tennessee 35, Kentucky 31.

5. Mississippi State at Ole Miss:  Mississippi State (7-4) has four losses to No. 2 Auburn, No. 5 LSU, No. 11 Alabama, and No. 12 Arkansas. The Bulldogs are a good football team that has beaten Georgia and Florida. Mississippi State 31, Ole Miss 17.

6. Florida at Florida State:  I’m just not sure how fired up the Gators are going to be to play anybody this week. Florida State wins this game and hopes that Maryland beats N.C. State. That would give the Seminoles a trip to next week’s ACC championship game. Florida State 28, Florida 21.

7.  South Carolina at Clemson: South Carolina is not going to overextend itself because the SEC championship game with Auburn is coming up next week. Marcus Lattimore gets the ball less than 10 times and the game is close. South Carolina 17, Clemson 10.

8. N.C. State at Maryland: A win puts N.C. State into the ACC championship game against Virginia Tech. A Maryland win puts Florida State into the ACC title game. N.C. State has Russell Wilson at quarterback and that should be enough. N.C. State 24, Maryland 20.

9. Oklahoma at Oklahoma State: Oklahoma State (10-1) leads the nation in total offense with 552 yards and 45.27 points per game. A win puts the Cowboys into their first-ever Big 12 championship game. Go with the Pokes because they simply have too many weapons. Oklahoma State 28, Oklahoma 24.

10. Michigan at Ohio State: The Buckeyes (10-1) are trying to win their seventh straight game over Michigan and to lock up a BCS bowl for the sixth straight season. They will do both.  Ohio State 28, Michigan 10.

Alabama, Georgia, LSU, MS ST, Florida, Clemson,
the ohio state will all have a thing in common by Sunday…

As for Tennessee-Kentucky : My oldest kid was 4 years old when Kentucky last beat the Vols, I didn’t sport gray whiskers, the Dow Jones Industrials closed around 1250, a gallon of gas was $1.15, first class postage was .20 cents. THE real kickers are milk was about $2.26 a gallon, eggs were $1.01 a dozen and the unemployment rate for our population of 236,000,000 was apx 9.6% (unlike today, I was employed through that period..!)

That’s why I was President of a well-known publicly traded company, (not the personnel director) only 12 years out of my ABJ at UGA.

But then again, I never routinely rejected any applicant because of where they went to school.

I think that Tony is right about Auburn and Alabama. Too many Auburn players remember Satan calling timeout two years ago to take Auburn’s pitiful 3 points off the board. I think that Bama may slow down Newton’s running, but he will kill them with passing and Dyer will compensate with some long runs. It will be a great game.

Three things can happen when you throw the ball. One of those things tends to happen a lot this year when opponents throw the ball against the Crimson Tide.

Alabama will win this one, hands down.

Ingram will go for 125, and Newton will be limited on the gorund.

Also, look for Alabama to win the TO battle, and they win 80% of the game, when they win the TO battle.

The same people, nationally, that picked Ole Miss to beat Auburn because it was a “trap game” are now picking bammer. Auburn is 6-1 all time in Tuscaloosa, thus Auburn fan’s name for the stadium there, “Jordan-Hare West”. Auburn wins but it won’t have to come down to a fourth quarter drive. Auburn by 14 at least.

As to Georgia winning because they have more athletes than Tech, Georgia has had more athletes than all six teams that beat them this year. All a team has to do to beat UGA is have decent coaching. Tech, however, may not be any better in that department than is UGA. I think the Dawgs pull this one out and qualify for the Pizza Bowl in B’ham.

The mutts may well win, but keeping Tech under 30 points won’t happen. This will be a very high-scoring game.

The only way Auburn beats ‘Bama is if it rains the whole game. Rain is scheduled to end in Tuscaloosa within the hour, so ‘Bama wins a close one.

Tony….

the Gators will come out fired up a plenty…..but with the ill-suited Brantley at QB….FSU still prevails over my Gators by 10 or more. It might not even be that close…..as Brantley might get sacked 10 times holding on to the ball long after his second and third receivers are running wide open 20 yards down the field, catch 5 of his tipped passes 10 yards or more behind the line of scrimmage, and pee in his pants thinking about playing college football (or taking a test on Monday in PE strategy). Sorry….I have seen enough of the “non-brilliant”, no- leadership skills of one John Brantley in the spread offense. It is a classic case of “overblown oil” not mixing with “quality water.” Now…if Urban decides to play Jordan Reed and Trey Burton more at QB and in the wildgator….the Gators might have a shot.

Bama by 7 over the Cam Newton Tigers. A lot of talent beats ONE big time talent…with Saban having a lot of time to prepare.

Arkansas beats LSU…and it might not be close if Mallet is on. But Arkansas is not a team you lay money on.

Vols vs Kentucky….battle for the Liberty…..185 to 183 in a 20 overtimes….when Smokey the dog….the only “player” left for Tennessee grads the loose ball and dodges the 5 remaining Kentucky players and makes a mad dash to the endzone to win it.

Who cares about the other games.

YOU GO TO GEORGIA FOR A GOOD REASON….an excellent educational opportunity.

I wish you Georiga and Tech fans would post about your college football programs or stop posting at all. Who cares which jobs you guys have or do not have.

Georgia has the better talent this year…and most years. But Johnson usually gets more out of his talent most years…but not this year….neither have, It is a nothing game for both teams…and the southern region TV audience. Much like the Florida vs. FSU game…although FSU does have something to play for.

“Auburn is 6-1 all time in Tuscaloosa…”

That’s true. The first game in BDS (not really BDS – but in Tuscaloosa) occurred in 1901. Auburn won that game.

In the modern era, Auburn leads the series in BDS with 4 wins out of 5 games. Four of those games took place while Bama was playing under NCAA investigations and sanctions with the resultant scholarship reductions and coaching staff changes brought about by said sanctions. There are no excuses for that. Alabama created their own problems and paid the price for their mistakes. Auburn was not unique in their new-found success against the Crimson Tide during that era. Even Mississippi State had a win streak vs. the Tide in those dark years of Bama football history.

And so, in those four games, Auburn amassed a total of 69 points vs. Alabama’s total of 35 points. That represents a clear pattern of dominance in those 4 games. Since Alabama has regained their full allotment of scholarships and hired Coach Saban, there has been one game played at BDS. Alabama’s 36-0 victory over Auburn in that game brought the point total for Alabama vs. Auburn games at BDS in the modern era to a slight Crimson Tide advantage of 71 to 69.

Auburn might lead the series at BDS, but past success is not always indicative of future performance. I feel pretty good about Bama’s chances in today’s game. Auburn has put together a great football team this year. Alabama has a very good team as well. I expect a great game of classic SEC football to be played in BDS this afternoon. I also expect Alabama to prevail in this game.

I hope that we see a clean game with no injuries, and may the best team win… They usually do.

Im not saying that I disagree with the prediction of the Tech Uga game from Barnhart or any other football prognosticator because Tech has not done much to prove otherwise. However, WTF has Georgia done to prove that they are so much better
Teams Uga has beat and records: Teams Tech has beat and records:
La La 2-9 Sc State 9-2 (FCS)
UT 5-6 UNC 6-5
Vandy 2-9 Wake 2-9
UK 6-5 UVA 4-7
ISU 1-10 (FCS) MTSU 4-6
DUKE 3-8

UGA has beat 1 team with a winning record, Tech has only beat 2 with winning records but the FCS team UGA played doesnt even have a winning record. For crying out lou the FCS team that UGA beat only won 1 freaking game. I still am not saying that Tech will win, they must play very good to win, but UGA is not exactly the New England Patriots. I think Tech is not as bad or Georgia as good, though Georgia is fighting for their lives and have material to be good. If Richt could bottle what he does against Tech, the run game in particular, he would have better seasons. He throws the ball like that is all he has, when he has good a good running game. The rain will make this a running game which will help Georgia, Tech is going to run no matter, but Georgia won’t do it any more than they have to. Georgia will win in a very close game.

Tech’s offense can’t score and their D can’t stop anyone. Georgia’s offense can score and their D can’t stop anyone. Tech’s only hope is turnovers in their favor, like the pick 6 against Duke. Without UGA turnovers and a couple of big special teams plays/scores for Tech, Georgia wins by at least two TDs.

I’m a Tech alum and my best friend was a Ga graduate. He died this year, but we always kidded each other when this game came around. I know writers like controversy and people who spew the kind of posts found on these blogs, but none of them mean much in the overall scheme of things. I would say that Georgia should win this game on paper, but it doesn’t always work that way in rivalry games (see 2008). Auburn and Alabama should also be a fight. Meanwhile, everyone have a great time at the game in Athens and be careful driving home. (designated driver) THWG
